I think the greatest thing I ever got to do was sing a solo at Carnegie Hall with a choral group and we did Beethoven’s Ninth in the same concert. Magic. Amazing! Have you guys recorded it? funkyhaus 7,697
After all the success of the Super Bowl/ASIB, I’m sure she wanted to continue that GP success, which is why the lyrics and production are more mainstream.
Gagz 2,579
I don’t think she’s lost her lyrical fire. I think there are great examples throughout Chromatica that prove that (911, Replay, Sine) but I can see how this album Is different in the sense that there’s not a lot of lyrical choruses or bridges that we are used to from Gaga (although Joanne lacked lyrical bridges in a lot of its songs). The verses hold all the weight (lyrically) on this album, and I think that’s why you and others might find this album lyrically weaker.

It was only 6 years ago but that was that weird inbetween time when things still got recorded but not on a format where you could easily share it. My first car had a CD player but no aux and no tape player so I could get one of those things for my phone. That’s when I fell in love with my Born This Way CD. And Paula Abdul ain’t got [BLEEP] on me!
RAMROD 109,622
Nah, she is just using words more effectively, so the messages she is trying to convey is more direct, and easily understood. Which is great. There are no pretense on any songs in CHROMATICA. She isn't using too much of big words anymore, or difficult symbolism that only herself know what those means, though in the past, there were times she isn't quite sure herself. BloodyM 1,257
I get 100% what you mean. Mind you I love Chromatica, but the lyrics and music are very generic and I am sure that this was done on purpose, for her to win the public again and not put her in the 'she a weirdo' box. There are no metaphors and poetic connotations - and that is something that I truly miss.
Toph 375
I think you're speaking to her vocal power and how well she is singing on the vowels in these songs, so because of her vocal power, those are the words most prominently burned in your memory. Just my thoughts. Enjoy what you enjoy.
lasagna 2,879
i actually think chromatica has some of gagas most developed lyrics (sine from above + 1000 doves are fantastic lyrically.) chromatica is also certainly full borderline insane lyrics, yes, but i think we're kidding ourselves if we think gaga hasnt had questionable lyrical moments before "I try to sell myself, but I am really laughing. Because I just love the music, not the bling" "lets white glove the bed" "Slap honey on a young pancake" "in the morning buy me eggs" "I know that Mom and Dad think I'm a mess, but it's alright, because I am rich as piss" "'Cause I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm a gypsy, gypsy, gypsy, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm a gypsy, gypsy, gypsy, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm a gypsy, gypsy, gypsy, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm a gypsy, gypsy, gypsy, I'm" () "Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Dum dum, da-di-da, Dum dum, da-di-da-dadda-da-di-da, Dum dum, da-di-da, Dum dum, da-di-da, Dum dum, da-di-da-dadda-da-di-da, Dum dum, da-di-da" (x2) altho lyrics like these make me laugh i still love them for how ridiculous they sound to me

Why they're all the sudden upsetting to people is revisionist history, in my opinion--putting Gaga on some pedestal. Sure, she has a ton of smart, clever pop songs that elevated her, but she's always maintained an airy, fun pop side that doesn't need to try so hard... Just Dance: Just dance, gonna be okay, da da doo-doo-mmm Just dance, spin that record, babe, da da doo-doo-mmm Just dance, gonna be okay, d-d-d-dance Dance, dance, just, j-j-just dance Alejandro: Alejandro Alejandro Ale-ale-jandro Ale-ale-jandro Alejandro Alejandro Ale-ale-jandro Ale-ale-jandro Judas: Ohohohoh I'm in love with Judas Ohohohoh I'm in love with Judas Judas! Judaas Judas! Judaas Judas! Judaas Judas! GAGA Applause: I live for the applause, applause, applause I live for the applause-plause, live for the applause-plause Perfect Illusion: It wasn't love, it wasn't love It was a perfect illusion (perfect illusion) Mistaken for love, it wasn't love It was a perfect illusion (perfect illusion) Well like I said, the repetitive lyrics used to be catchy, but definitely not for Stupid Love and Enigma and the production build up hurts it more I however did not say the rest of the tracks (Alice, Free Woman, Plastic Doll, Rain on Me, or Sine from Above) which all have repetitive lyrics but were just done better Cause once you let it go you better know it's gone
nswain1110 3,084
You know, I never really considered Gaga a master of lyrics (Telephone, Alejandro, Just Dance, etc are incredibly vapid but they're also FUN AF). And that's okay - she gets the points across, you're able to (usually) emotionally connect to the song and the BEST part is that you get to be taken into pop euphoria while you're there. That being said, I would actually argue that Chromatica lyrics are deeper and more relatable than anything off ASIB and most of Joanne.
