Gaga Has Lost Her Lyrical Fire

Also, I think we should be careful with what’s considered to be “good lyrics” (especially said in such a way that it appears to be objective). Very simple lyrics can still be excellent. When I was younger, I would tend to put more value on things that, at first sight, seem more “complicated” or “researched” and that I didn’t understand right away, because I thought that’s what makes a good artist. But there is something extremely pretentious in doing so, and I recognize that now. Now I allow myself to enjoy songs that are more straightforward because they can convey something that can only exist without the superficiality of “complicated lyrics”. Those songs are still worth of being dissected and analyzed, and can be just as profound.

Ultimately (and this next part is just my opinion), I think Gaga is very much aware of what she’s doing. For me, 911 is a good example of a song where she tried to express herself in more of a poetic way, one that might not be as obvious on your first listen (Keep myself in beautiful places / Paradise is in my hands). On the other hand, Replay could be seen as more straightforward (It’s a game I play / And I hate to say / You’re the worst thing and the best thing that’s happened to me). Still, the lyrics for both of these songs are among her best, imo. I think we’ve seen her do both very well, which leaves her to craft the container (the lyrics) based on the way she wants to share its content (the message) at the moment of creating the song.

I agree with this 100%. However, I think that the lyrics on this album have been degraded by the production. Alot of lyrics were probably cut to fit the final product. And like I said in my OP, it is my personal preference for lyrics to flow like a sentence

You really wrote this with your whole chest

If you read my post I literally wasn’t being that negative, the worst thing I said was literally “These lyrics just don't flow whatsoever when you read them. Personally I want lyrics to read like a sentence.”

“lyrical fire” Is 150% subjective and can mean whatever you want it to.

SpadesToStart

To your point about so many of the lyrics revolving around “you” “I” and “me”, I think that’s a natural progression considering how personal and revealing this album is. A lot of times on this album, Gaga is baring her psyche to us in a much more direct way than she ever has before, so naturally “I”, “me”, “you”, “my” are going to be the foundation of her lyrics. Doesn’t necessarily mean they’re uninteresting, though.

Literally referring to a track not that's not at the forefront of an album, so like one that doesn't get alot of coverage. If we are talking literally then Heavy Metal Lover is a side C because btw is split into 2 discs.

Honey. HML ain’t no B or C side.

simple lyrics have always been Gaga. She makes pop music. Not complicated bjork like electronica

Write your song as you want to then. Gosh.

My post wasn’t even that negative, I summed up my post by saying that I believe the lyrics are “okay”, and that there are a lot of them that I enjoyed

Even the corny lines from those albums I found to be charming. When I hear "Come, come, unwrap me I'm hard on the outside But if you give me time Then I could make time for your love"

I am not charmed at all. I just imagine her singing this to a 50 year old man aka Christian and it's not cute.

Why are you imagining that? I mean music is meant to be up to the imagination of the listener, but that’s random. You’re still wrong about her losing her lyrical fire though. There’s plenty of great examples on Chromatica, not to mention ASIB that counteract that claim. I’m not saying her old writing was bad either. But Chromatica has some of her best poetry. Rethink this opinion.

And Paula Abdul ain’t got [BLEEP] on me!
