Happy Pride Month!

Despite being a pivotal figure in the Stonewall Riots, Marsha P. Johnson didn't actually start the riots. She said so herself. More info in this article:

BLOODANDSEMEN

This actually isn't true. It is understood that Sylvia, Marsha, and others denied starting it as a way to validate the movement, because a drag queen/trans women had hardly any respect within the gay community back then. Additionally, it was a way to make the movement bigger than just a single person throwing the shot glass/brick/etc.

as a history student I find it really interesting to see this as people place so much importance on this “first brick” which I don’t think should be remembered at all!

who knows what happened to trigger it all, maybe it was Sylvia, maybe it was Stormé who threw a punch, maybe it was a random person who we’ve forgotten.  what we all need to remember is that it was queer poc and trans women who stood up and helped to lead our rights movement while also not minimising the impact of the others who were there.  Marsha may not have “thrown the first brick” but she turned up and was a loud voice in the community in the following decades.

Black transwomen started the revolution and we owe our rights to them.

some gays (especially the racist ones) really need to think about this

For them, Pride is nothing but an opportunity to drink, hookup and flash their six packs. They have no idea how much these people have suffered for our freedom.

tbh i have the feeling that most of the gays don’t recognize how they have literally fought and bleed for this kind of privilege we have today. Pride shouldnt be about getting drunk and have sex with some stranger
