It is understood that Sylvia, Marsha, and others denied starting it as a way to validate the movement, because a drag queen/trans women had hardly any respect within the gay community back then. melon 3,668 Posted June 1, 2020 Share Posted June 1, 2020 as a history student I find it really interesting to see this as people place so much importance on this “first brick” which I don’t think should be remembered at all! who knows what happened to trigger it all, maybe it was Sylvia, maybe it was Stormé who threw a punch, maybe it was a random person who we’ve forgotten. what we all need to remember is that it was queer poc and trans women who stood up and helped to lead our rights movement while also not minimising the impact of the others who were there.
