I know it can come off as pretty cringe but it looks like it meant a lot to the black people there. 

I'm assuming they're all members of the same church and they were having a type of prayer where they were basically pleading to God to forgive "them" for the racism. It could have been they were asking for forgiveness for all racists as well. 

It's a nice thought. I just hope it's followed up with action as well. 

I'm sure the white people in the video aren't racist because otherwise they wouldn't be doing this.

It's fairly common for churches to pray in the name of "X group" so this is not that surprising. They often pray for God to "forgive US" for "X thing" as a way to include everybody even if they maybe aren't the ones directly doing it.

The problem with apologizing is that, as cute as it looks, it is really performative. Moreover, it gives Black folk the extra emotional labour of having to listen + respond to white tears. We non-Black folk show our support by educating ourselves and the members of our communities, by showing up and shutting up, by taking our cues from Black leadership, and by keeping our feelings to ourselves. As emotional as this time can be for many of us, we have to prioritize the reason we are fighting for. Black liberation should our priority and if we co-op that space to make room for our feelings (which results in silencing Black folk), we are part of the problem.

The only problem I have is that when it is suggested that it is my job as a white person to fix the rigged system is exactly that. I as a solitary person cant change a racist and rigged system. Ive tried twice now to vote for the person who would try to bring real justice to bare fruit but the majority of democrats continue to choose moderate democrats as the party nominee. The system doesn't just hate black and brown people. The system hates anyone not part of the oligarchy class. What my job as a white person would actually be to unite with black and brown folks to help change the rigged system. Its a shared responsibility & its not mine alone to bare.

This is kinda cringe... like thank you for caring, like seriously. But like damn... y’all kinda blew it as a country electing Joe Biden over Bernie Sanders. Now it’s gonna be even more difficult to fix this, but if MLK got civil under renowned racist Lyndon B Johnson, then it’s gotta he possible now.

I would also say that asking for forgiveness on a spiritual level is great and thats what this is but the black community continues to ask for more than that (tangibles) only to be ignored. Doing good spiritually isnt good enough if it isnt also material (laws, legislation, reparations, protections). Its also why the violence isnt going to do any good. It has to be a shared experience because thats the only way to allow for closure IMHO. Feel free to disagree with me but thats where I am today.
