Rio 5,088
It's big in the UK, but it remains to be seen whether it has radio longevity. It's currently #1 in the UK now. SL was a massive #1 radio hit here and it's now certified Silver here. I reckon it'll end up as Gold-certified by year's end, but I expect ROM to do way better. This coming week will be pivotal for the song, to see how the GP takes to it after it's first week at #1.

Cuz here in my country, stations literally play whatever's trending and popular (ROM is still trending here at #3 on Youtube). How the hell do you not play what a lot of people actually listen to? Well here in Canada (which seems to be simmilar to US) they take into account Shazam, call out scores and some stations requests Here a song never is #1 on radio right at the beggining like it appeared to be in the UK it always gets added to stations gradually and spine gradually rise Often by the time it peaks on radio the streams and sales already peaked several weeks before Lead singles sometimes debut a little stronger cuz when a lead from a big artist is highly anticipated stations often add it right at the beggining which was the case with Gaga's Stupid Love or Taylor Swift's me But even leads like that that debut stronger on radio still take time to climb to their peaks and 2nd singles like ROM often start with very few spins and take time to climb even if it's from big artists YouTube trending and streaming may send the message to stations that people like something in addition to the call out scores and Shazam and requests but it doesn't mean it's going to instantly determine what will be played on radio The way it works in North America... ROM probably won't peak on radio for another 4-6 weeks so we're looking at late June to mid-July depending how fast it rises

It amazes me how a song can go straight to #1 on radio lol In North America that NEVER happens. Is your population very concentrated in one or 2 areas where a few big stations make up most of the AI? Cuz that might explain how this could happen if a few stations picked it up fast

I use ukairplaychart for this data. America is HUGE, it has a lot of radio stations. Maybe that's why, I dunno

Maybe that's why, I dunno Canada is also big (in size) so different cities are too far apart for the same radio stations so maybe that too is why it averages it out and songs can't jump right away either The most populated area in Canada is the Golden Horseshoe area (Toronto Metro plus a few more cities) which is 25% of Canada's population where each big station might have more national impact But the other 75% is in cities and metros each too far to get the same radio stations so unless every single one picked up a new single quickly, songs here in Canada also have to climb gradually they never debut at the top The UK has more population than Canada in a much smaller area. Perhaps they have more concentrated density where a higher percentage of the population is exposed to the same stations and that makes a #1 radio debut possible if just a few of the big ones add it to power rotation right away Here in Canada many dozens of the large stations would need to do it and in the US possibly hundreds. So it just doesn't happen

America is very... straight up, in what it wants to play and will stick to it for some time. Very formulaic, I dunno
CheapGin 561
I live in NYC and today I heard it teased on the radio while I was in an uber ( but got out before they played it) and then I heard someone at the beach playing it while they were walking the board walk and then ANOTHER person playing the album at the beach after that
