Stop acting like you're woke and wouldn't have reacted the same way if you hadn't come at a later stage when there was more context. We all reacted to a story that positioned an innocent man defending his business being attacked. It is the natural human disposition to see injustice and be angry.

Of course now that we know the context, we would react the same as you do now, but that doesn't make our initial reaction with the amount of information we had any less valid.

Yes. All lives do matter. I'm not denying the atrocities that black people have suffered. I want the protests to be peaceful and it should also be a way of uniting black and white and making them the same. (Hence #alllivesmatter. Do you not believe all lives matter?

That person clearly wasn't saying that to undermine black lives matter. The only reason saying "all lives matter" is problematic is when it's trying to minimize/distract from the purpose of BLM, which I don't think was his/her intent.

I think that you have good intentions but you should be more educated when it comes to BLM. this is about what they have been through and how they are still being treated. don't you see these police officers throwing up white power gang signs, excited to attack.

I agree that they had good intentions but like I said, they should look into educating themselves when it comes to BLM. :kara:

No I absolutely do and I am more disgusted with the police then any of the protesters. Defending the disgusting deeds of a police officer murdering a black man. I am weeping now just talking about it. While what is happening now gives me a lot of anxiety I believe I can see the sunshine through the other side of the tunnel. Much love to you and everyone during these difficult times

It does but it’s NOT you’re fault entirely.

You were fed a narrative just like the rest of the world. Black people are this, that and dangerous “thugsssss”. Run away etc ::screams::

The problem you don’t realize is the initial responses didn’t give these guys the benefit of doubt. Let’s turn the tables. If it were white guys doing this it would’ve been “Omg what was the Black guy doing” not “WOW Those thugs are beating up that guy”

This is why people are angry. But like I said most are waking up now and it’s not your fault per se.

No post-Civil War movement was won with bloodshed.

Martin Luther King was killed.

He was voted most hated man in America.

That’s what took America to listen.

I agree with you. We were fed a lie and anyone would have reacted the same, we felt empathy and anger for the "innocent" man. Now that we know differently, it's a completely different story. That's the issue with the internet, we see something and most often aren't able to see it in it's full context. This case is an exception.

Anyhow, I agree with you that we should have perhaps been more critical of the story being fed to us.

The very first response on this thread, by @homomo asked for more context, and multiple people disagreed and even attacked him (getting plenty of "thnx" reactions). People here closed themselves to the idea of learning more context, something key in situations like these.

But I appreciate your willingness to say you made an error. That goes a long way! Hope you’re staying safe

And that is a learning for all of us involved.
