660k without the amazon 0.99 $ deal

and 1.1m with the amazon deal.

Note.. it was Amazon's own decision to sell the album at 1 dollar to promote their upcoming cloud service back then. Just putting the facts clearly out there for the new monsters/fans who might not be aware of this.

Amazon did pay Gaga in full for the discounted sales though.

I really wish that BTW wasn’t sold for 0.99. It was really worth so much more, I feel like Gaga got all the slack for it when it wasn’t a tactic.

Born This Way went platinum first week.

And if Chromatica is going to be her biggest selling album since BTW by barly breaking 300k then.... Wow.

Don’t get me wrong, I want it to do go because it’s more like a concept album than a regular one, it’s non-stop flow makes it feel like a musical. I love it for that and I want it to work so we can hopefully have more visuals.

I suspect it would have done 325k if she had held it until early-mid June....but there were so many leaks. I think even Billboard kind of assumed she had to release it now because of the leaks as they said something along those lines in on of their write ups (it may have been Vulture tho).

But I still think the #s she's doing now are very good if fans stop comparing it to the BTW standard and look at the context. TBH there was a chance she'd barely crack 200k imo, especially since Dua (who isn't that big in the US but had a bunch of press & a smash hit in DSN) couldn't even break 75k with a critically acclaimed album.

I wonder if it's actually gonna outsell ARTPOP

It will lol. Much better reviews & the low end of the projection still has it above ARTPOP. Plus, HDD tends to underestimate.

Eh, context matters. As I said above, the Amazon deal for BTW set an unreasonable standard for Gaga too. It probably would have done 600-700k without the Amazon deal, so 300k for Chromatica (factoring in all the factors like streaming, the pandemic, ageism, etc.) seems like way less of a drop.

I mean Lover was a monster smash for Taylor (nearly 900k), but still was a drop of nearly 400k from her peak...I think fans don't factor in how big of an impact streaming has nowadays.

It also set an unrealistic standard for her future releases.

Yes. That's the US total for first week.

Even since 2016/17. I'm 90% sure I read an article where they said sales have dropped more than 15% in the past 2 years...and probably a hell of a lot more than 2011. I mean there are other factors (ageism and all), but streaming...

Sis Taylor outsells pretty much everyone but Adele by large margins, but even Lover was 300-400k off her peak. It was about 860k and she used to do 1.1 or 1.2 mil.
