I'm a little bit disappointed with Chromatica

The best thing about adding a new album to the family, is that the rest are still there for you to enjoy! If you don’t like the direction of this one as much, that is fine.

I adore Gaga, the human, and support whatever art she decides to make. I haven’t an album of hers I don’t stan.

Dude, I am OLD (comparatively). I'm almost 42. I have TEENAGE kids and have been married 20 years.

This album slaps and it slaps HARD. Age doesn't matter when it comes to music. I'll be looking forward to LG20 when I'm in the old folks home. I have been CONSUMED by this era so far. Maybe a bit too much.

(where ARE my kids, anyway...?)

it’s an opinion thread though? why does gaga daily have to be resounding yasss gaga opinions?

Sure, but when i tell my negative opinion to the world i’m usually wanting to be proved wrong, not prove others wong. Like i don’t want to force my negativity on anyone else. I’d rather keep it to myself and let others enjoy what I - for whatever reason- cannot.

The critics and the GP are saying otherwise, but we appreciate your opinion even if most of us think it sucks:hor:

Never been one of those, thank GOD! (mine are not sports kids), but I accept your acknowledgement of my status.

I was jamming out to The Fame on my iPod while I was running my toddlers all over town in a jogging stroller. I've listened to every album as it has come out and followed her career from the beginning. I actually almost went to one of those NKOTB concerts where she was the opening act because I was a huge fan of THEM and saw them in concert when I was a teen. I  grew up on 80s and early 90s music and this album is a throwback to the music from my youth. It's a fantastic trip.

Hey! I haven't really expressed my opinion on this forum but I feel you. There are some high moments on the album for me, like alice, free woman or babylon but overall it doesn't leave up to the hype that I had created for myself unfortunately. Not that there is anything wrong with the album, and I'm happy that fans are enjoying it so much and as a chartser happy that it's getting great commercial reception, but it doesn't feel as daring as any of her albums before, the production is mostly the same house beats throughout the album and the music itself just doesn't scream originality (save for some exceptions). It is a better than average dance record definitely, but I guess we'll have to see how it holds up for us! How I tried to make sense of things was assuming that gaga's point with this one was really to make a universal and easily consumable pop banger filled record and after the commercial success of this one she will maybe feel comfortable again to make a more daring album perhaps! we'll see

you put words on my feelings, I don’t want to spit on it because I know it’s good music but unfortunately my hype was very high and it ended up being not what i was expecting. I’m a bit underwhelmed by some of the productions that sounds more like 2010’s house/EDM than 90’s house/Eurodance.
I know a lot of the songs are growers tho, like Fun Tonight; I’m working on trying to like the songs more. But some of them are let downs. I prefered Free Woman’s demo (and I’m Usually not the type of person that prefers demo over official songs) ROM is also one of the songs I had high expectations for, but I think this song lacks something, maybe production wise. Also, I wish we had more of Boys Noize production and LESS (a lot less) of Axwell’s who made the record a bit aged in my opinion.

BUT

there’s also positive things to say about that record.

gaga’s vocals have never been more impressive. It’s truly one of her best album vocally (if not the best) I also think lyrically she’s being VERY honest about her experiences of life. (fun tonight being one of the songs I’m talking about) she’s is not using metaphors or anything like she did in « Judas » or other past songs. She is talking about what she wants, honestly and unapologetically. Transitions are this Album Strenght, especially between the interludes and the songs.
and I like the drum build ups used in a lot of songs in this album. This element of production bring me back to 90’s dance music.

Serve it, Ancient City style!

Although I didn't love it first listen, now i do. It tells a story, is cohesive, is pop but not too commercial (lets be honest, all the singles are SUPER generic next to the other tracks) + it's still "weird" with the ad-libs and bridges and outros/intros. Sometimes a robotic bridge and futuristic beat is enough to be experimental, it doesn't have to be explosion of sounds (ie Aura).

I feel like a lot of people wanted something more experimental but it would have been such a hot mess imo.  Chromatica is what ARTPOP should have been: A cohesive pop sound with experimental elements that won't scare away (new) listeners.. not a crazy, try-hard, overly produced record. I think ARTPOP just made most of you guys elevate your standards w/gaga. Anything that's not as experimental as ARTPOP will never please some monsters. Just a reminder that some of her biggest hits like pokerface have a very, very simple instrumental.

Also it's okay not to enjoy this album. There will be more to come :P

Stop the music, Start the drama.

How to make Chromatica perfect:

1. Remove filler songs like Plastic Doll and Enigma. I don’t see these songs make any impact to the album.

2. Replace the album version of Babylon with Hauslab version.

3. Add one ballad or two to the album cuz I’m tired of EDM songs one after another. I know all the songs are upbeat but I just can’t keep my energy consistently high for 40+ minutes. I need a break.

4. Move Fun Tonight to the back cuz it is similar to Free Woman, both start with the alphabet F and are bright.

5. Add dialogues between songs (like ASIB) to tell a story about Chromatica, making the album more cohesive.
