Wasn't strong enough to be lead and it was geared at homaging Gaga's old sound and pop radio

They knew it wasn't strong enough because they released it 6 weeks before album and 5/4 weeks before ROM and that is a very short time span

I repeat that every thread :vegas:

Stare at the Chartster in the mirror they talk to me too. #StreamFunTonight

I think it's a good segue from ASIB to chormatica and also the message behind SL is everything.

If ROM was the lead single and SL was the second single, it would have been a bigger hit.

Interesting :ohwell: but people would have had meltdowns over SL being chosen 1 week before the album drop

I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

The only issue I have with it is that it 'stands out'. I honestly think Stupid Love could have been replaced with any other song that was scrapped from the album. I say this not because I think SL is bad, but because it's the only song that doesn't flow with the album in my opinion.

Also this. I hate that covid made SL lingers as the only new Gaga song out there for way more than planned.

That would have been the case no matter what lead she would have chosen

Perfect lead choice. Worst track on album. I have only heard 3 pffical released tracks. Lol!

Rom > SC >>>>>>>>>>> SL

I feel like Stupid Love would have been a great single to lead a greatest hits album around the time of Enigma. My favorite part about it is that it sounds so much like a compendium Gaga song - a bit of every Gaga lead seems to have went in it. I still like it for that reason. But it feels less apart of the 90's house and europop style that dominates Chromatica.

Ugh, you think it would've been a good idea for Lady Gaga, who resurrected her career after her last attempt at a dance-pop album through a series of amazing and exhausting moments in the last 7 years - Sound of Music, TIHTY, AHS, SB Halftime, ASIB - to step back into the game with a COLLABORATION? Absolutely not.

She worked her butt off to be able to release a successful pop album and the conversation regarding her lead single was NOT going to center around another artist. Stupid Love's initial plan was perfect; did you all notice how much of a boost it got when Rain On Me was released? Had it been released on April 3 as planned, Stupid Love woud've been in the 20s on BB Hot 100 still -- likely higher since she'd have done promo and performances, and radio audiences would have been larger -- and gotten back to the Top 10 and achieved a cute, long run.

Look at all of the reactions and reviews of Stupid Love and compare them to how she was talked about during/after ARTPOP. Then, tell me whether SL was a mistake. Please. SL doggie-paddled so Rain On Me could Michael Phelps this b*iatch and it, and this whole era, was perfection.

Like most other users, I agree that it was a good way to sort of prime the GP to what her new sound would be like without completely turning them off. If something like Alice

Spoiler

with the relatively dark lyrics and autotuned robotic voice in the bridge

as much of a straight up motherfûcking bop as it is, I seriously doubt that it would've gotten others interested in the album.

President Biden

Reminder to Stupid Lover haters: It was her first solo song to peak in the top 5 since way back.
