After first listen, honest opinion not a review based on hype

Rating songs as a standalone
Alice 7/10 - The high singing was a bit of shock to the system XD cute but got a bit repetitive by the end
Stupid Love 7.5/10 - underrated tbh
Rain On Me 10/10 - ABSOLUTE BOP
Free Woman 5/10 - Lyrically good, production not so good. Doesn't hit right
Fun Tonight 7/10 - Again, lyrically good, feel like the production was lacking. I like the chorus though
911 9/10 - The transition into this song is perfect. Not a massive of fan of autotune normally but it actually works here
Plastic Doll 4/10 - Filler song. Skip. Chorus gives me katy perry vibes tbh :messga: (Nothing against katy perry i just generally don't care for her music)
Sour Candy 7/10 - It's ok
Enigma 8.5/10 - Very 90s. Love the vocals in this.
Replay 10/10 - If this isn't a single... I bet this would do really well with the general public
Sine From Above 9/10 - Great song but that transition to the outro was janky af
1000 Doves 6/10 - I appreciate the message but it's another one that just doesn't hit right
Babylon 9/10 - Runway song for the gays

Overall I like Chromatica, it's something I can listen to and enjoy but imo it's not as good as BTW or ARTPOP. Vocally it's great but I feel something was missing, I'm leaning towards it maybe it was the production? Some songs didn't go hard enough for me or just didn't go anywhere. As an album it has a cohesive sound, probably to it's detriment tbh, I really enjoyed how on the past albums each song was a completely different sound. Chromatica played it pretty safe. On past albums you could tell it was a Gaga song, some of these were borderline generic, I could imagine other artists releasing similar songs to those. I'm always excited to hear what Gaga is releasing because you can almost guarantee it's something different.

Where do we go from here?
Personally for future albums I really want to see her go to dark experimental pop or pop-rock with emphasis on the rock aspect.

First off, I am grateful for Gaga because I can’t imagine how much energy and emotion go into making an album, and their is definitely a lot of emotion in this album.

But just for the record here is my thought on the album, it’s different. But then not actually. Gives me strong Natalia Kills and Gwen Stefani Love Angel Music Baby vibes. I love both of those artists tho so I’m sure the album will grow on me :reductive:

Also, I feel like she’s chasing the sound of current “indie” pop artists like Charli and Sophie with this album and on some songs like Sine From Above she definitely gets there, but as a whole she doesn’t quite hit the mark.

I don’t think this is the fault of Gaga, because the lyrics are great, but rather the fault of her producers. I’ve personally always thought Bloodpop was overrated :trollga:

I give it a 10.

This album is a massive grower. There were so many songs I couldn't vibe with at first but now I find that I'm loving them all. I watched the Zane Lowe interview before listening to the album and I feel like I really understand Gaga with this album. It's absolutely amazing and she should be really proud of it. :diane:

Also, the interludes are stunning and I'm glad she included them. :flutter:

I don't understand why so many people don't like Plastic Doll. Is it because of the lyrics? The melody and bassline are so catchy.

I'm skipping Stupid Love and Free Woman (don't like the pre-chorus). I think FW would work better as a bonus track. These two songs kinda mess with the storyline of the album imho. Alice, ROM, FT and then the mental breakdown in 911 makes more sense.

The album as a whole is amazing. A solid 9 for me.

I've only listened to it once. It's a solid 7/8 for me. I'm pretty sure it will grow on me. Musically, the album is a banger though.

8/10 but I think that's just with hype. I'll probably rank it at 7/10 when the hype goes away next week. It's a solid album but just needs higher highs. Becomes a little repetitive production wise and could use more variety.

FRANK1991

Part 1 was so strong so at first listen I was disappointed with part 2 and 3

But after 2nd listen I've come to really enjoy the album.

It's too short!

9/10

Cause once you let it go you better know it's gone
