I'm seeing society increasingly get tunnel vision where only 1 thought or portion of an issue at hand is considered.

 

In this case the hatred for the racism is justified therefore any action is justified (with no consideration for the innocents being hurt)

 

The exact same can be said about other issues whether it's from liberals or conservatives etc

 

There's no middle ground and common sense on anything. It's just one side vs another. 

 

Society will never improve with that kind of mentality and frankly I think these actions only add fuel to that tension.

 

People who are not sensitive to racial issues are only going to take it even less seriously when they see this and think protestors are just lunatics

 

The same thing happened here in Canada when environmental protests went extreme last year and the blockades shut down a lot of the country and business. A lot of people that may have had sympathy for the environmental causebjust started hating on the protestors for their extreme measures

 

I don't have any official statistics to give u but anecdotally I can tell you a good 3/4 had their impressions of the protestors deminished

 

The same could happen here. You go to extremes in protests that don't follow any logic and do borderline terrorism and that doesn't end up helping the cause.

 

Not to mention the idea that the ends justify the means (assuming any of the methods actually manage to yield any results) is the exact same line of reasoning and justifications terrorists use. The exact same!

 

We should be rising up with political pressure, campaigns to vote out politicians who aren't doing anything about the issues, the police brutality etc

When I first saw the videos my heart broke. I understand being angry but this is going too far. Not only does it take away from the real reason people gathered together but it does make our community look bad.  Even throughout history riots are always accompanied by looting because there are just nasty people in this world that like to take advantage of chaotic situations but this... this is just extremely sad.

I don't think it's white people's place to be criticizing this. We have no idea how these people are feeling at the moment. They are constantly being let down by the system. They are angry and they want change. Rightfully so.

I think it's an aspect of privilege to not understand the mindset in Minneapolis right now.

I'm not condoning the violence, but it is not my place to condemn it. We have to understand why this is happening and change it.

How about instead of us judging people that are rightfully angry, we stand up and demand action. One of the easiest ways we can do that is by voting. Not just president, but down ballot too.

Instead of talking about the actions in Minneapolis, we should talk about what caused them.

So many people ignore the atrocities cops commit. It's not just brutality, they are more likely to question minorities than white people, etc.

It's not as if people decided randomly to go riot. We need to completely overhaul policing in America. And that starts with holding these cops who murder accountable.

The problem is that in America we tend to hold police above us. But, in reality, they are there to serve us. When they commit a crime or murder someone, not only did they commit a crime, they go against their duty. We have to remember that they are supposed to serve the public. When we the public stand up we can make some change.

Looks like what happened is Floyd resisted arrest by falling over on purpose, refusing to bend over to get in the police car.... And what the cop was doing was putting pressure on his neck to cause pain so he would then get up and comply.  That's what it seems like happened. I really doubt he could be charged with murder because he wasn't trying to kill the guy. He'll probably be charged with police brutality and manslaughter.

He could have lifted his knee to let the guy breathe.  There are other ways to subdue a man without suffocating a man to death.  He had the other officer just standing there.  Police officers should know anything that interferes with respiration can kill a person.

Go back and watch the video of George Floyd suffocating because a police officer had a KNEE on his neck and wouldn't lift it to save his life that has everyone upset.  Protests are happening because the African American community are upset over men and women dying by the hands of law enforcement that should be protecting people.

peace isn’t going to make people listen. how long have people been protesting and talking about police brutality? how long has the slogan ‘Stop Killing Us’ been used, and what will it take for it to be drilled into everyone’s minds? sometimes, violence is the answer. because now that the government is gonna have to pay for the broken police cars, the harmed policemen and women, the burned buildings, they’ll actually take note and do something. we’ll hope, at least.
