phillipaf 685
Whether you agree with her on that TedX talk or not, she merely used the song as a reference, an introduction to the topic because it's that easy to do. She didn't misinterpret Born This Way. Either way, she doesn't have to interpret the song at all, in order to be able to use it. The GP knows what she's talking about. That's a good start. Geez. God Control 2,181
Sexuality is pretty complex, I think. Scientifically, it’s part nature, part nurture in different percentages, and as for my personal view, I believe we’re all born bisexual with different leanings towards either side of the spectrum, leanings that may be influenced by nurture and growth. To me, that doesn’t alter the fact that we are in fact born this way or we have no power (or need) to change. The thing is most of our acquired/learn behaviors that have to do with personality and preferences are also very hard to change, and sometimes no matter how hard we try and hide it, there have to be moments where we burst with who we really are, which is why I don’t encourage conversion therapy because psychological symptoms aside, you could still suddenly feel that you can’t do this anymore and it would be very unfair to the person you’re with to just get them involved with you in an attempt to “test” being straight, only to toss them away. At the end of the day, we are who we are, and we should focus on improving who we are instead of changing things that hurt no one, things that we could still flourish with, without changing. Whether we were born this way or even consciously chose this way, we deserve to be respected and accepted. Acceptance and respect shouldn’t only be given due to lack of choice, but rather because we are all human behind and we are all different and we should cherish our differences rather than find reasons to blame each other for.
