He was somebody I really looked up to and he’s proven himself to be another so-called progressive who gets back in line when party leaders say so. But you are correct, Americans (particularly Republicans) care more about the “victory” and media slant than the humanitarian aspects. That is why Democrats like Hillary & Obama take a different approach. They (and myself) believe the US should use its military capabilities to help end dictatorships all over the globe & establish stable, humane democracies in those countries. That’s not to say it always works, because it doesn’t. But the simple idea of America being a force to be reckon with when it comes to protecting human rights, is a good one. It sounds good in theory but it doesn't always work out. Also, the US isn't the biggest democracy. In any case, trying to set up liberal democracies overseas has not gone well regardless of who did it. I'd urge you to look past political affiliation and see what Democrats actually did. When it comes to foreign policy, America lives in a one party system and that's the unfortunate truth. Bush also wanted to help end dictatorships, remember?
