HausOfHarlow 380
Artists potentially get more streams of songs if they are short, because in today's world, nobody has time to listen to one song, on repeat, that's 4+ minutes. Artists will continue to pump out songs under 3:15 and include short interludes and such, because they'll get the $$$ for 4 listens to a 1 minute interlude vs. 1 listen to a 4 minute song. About the music, not the bling was so 2013. 2020 is allllllllll about the bling and the streams and the numbers, therefore, track length will shorten, and quality will deteriorate. Love, a listener who highly favors a 4:00+ track length. end/rant

BTW had quite a few of those, and I actually really enjoyed them a lot. Who knows! Maybe Gaga can make a song that's about the length of a snippet sound epic. 3 points in and ready for more

If every song is over 5 minutes it can kill album flow. I like BTW but it makes it hard to listen to when the album has 17 songs and every one is verging on 5 minutes. 73 minutes is a long time to listen to the whole album and get the full experience. I think having shorter songs isn't bad, nor is the amount of songs bad - especially when we have dedicated interludes - they serve a purpose as intros and outros to the songs as we listen to it as a complete album and give them their own breathing room without necessarily making everything super extended out. Plus when it comes to doing the songs live she can always easily extend songs out to twice their length [if stems leak we can do the same!] and doing them live there will be more organic flow and fluctuation instead of the drag of hearing something identical loop back around once more. The balance is extremely important. The only reason we had an album like Born This Way that was so incredibly long in its length and song time is because the timing. It was digital sales that pushed the album and CD - now with Chromatica an album of this length is because of streaming and actually maybe partially even the revial of old formats like vinyl and cassette. Albums traditionally sat around 10 songs and 40 minutes for AGES and CDs and digital changed that - that's why up to the early to mid 2010's we saw a lot of album re-releases shortly after their original version was out. It was opportunity to make things longer and longer because they could. Streaming took hold though and kinda made the industry switch back to the age old standard when it came to record lengths and times - let me just give a few recent examples. Harry Styles - Fine Line 46 minutes 11 tracks - only 2 songs over 4:19 Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia 37 minutes 11 tracks - only 1 song over 3:41 Kasey Musgraves - Golden Hour 45 minutes 13 tracks I chose these 3 examples because they are great examples of albums with mostly short songs and shorter run times and they still are very solid and well thought out. TL;DR: We won't know how the album is until we hear it and length of the songs and album itself do not indicate quality in any shape or form.

Kiss and Make Up was as long as SL and it went perfectly... but a 2:37 song with 5 ppl is a joke. another shot before we kiss the other side

I guess 3:02 for a large scale collaboration feels short to me. But I will reserve complete judgment until we hear the song! But Sour Candy's length does feel a little comical. Who knows- it could end up being another interlude? 3 points in and ready for more

Patrick Garcia 312
A song can be extremely well thouth out AND short. It's better than songs that have 5 minutes and keep repeting the same melody over and over. I hate those pretensious cult people who say **** about short songs just because of its lenght. I mean, if you really understand a thing about good music than you should be able to recognize a good melody and arrangement when you hear it whatever the duration of the song is.
