Like I said, I think just because a song is short doesn't mean that it can't have all the greatest that some longer songs have. Sometimes short songs are better. Long songs can drown themselves out, and then it can seem superfluous.

Short songs can easily have space to grow, beathe, and trasition if they are composed right. I think John Wayne, for example, is long enough. I think any shorter would be too short and I think any longer would be too long.

The same thing with Perfect Illusion. In fact, Perfect Illusion is also 3:02, just like ROM. PI is a fantastic song, and I also think it's timed well.

I will counter argue and say that both PI and JW could use another 20 sec or so of instrumental only. But I agree with a lot of what else you said :vegas:

So... with the two tracks taking out of the 43 minute equation... we have 37 mins and 45 secs left.

14 tracks left.. that leaves an average of 161 seconds or 2.68 minutes for each track.  Or 2 minutes and 41 seconds.  Given that the interludes could be a minute long... This is 11 tracks with 34 mins and 45 secs left with an average of 3 minutes and 10 seconds for each non-interlude song.... And this could be longer since we know some interludes are shorter than a minute.

Things will be fine, hunties... :neyde:

Only three minutes long? Gee, that's disappointing for a dance song. Back in the '80s and '90s dance songs easily ran over five minutes in length.

Gaga has to get those streaming numbers up :messga::vegas:

I honestly disagree that even Gaga is capable of the same quality of songwriting within the constraints of a 3 minute maximum compared to her most epic tracks like Edge of Glory and Bad Romance which were nearly 2x as long as the predicted 2:47 of Sour Candy.

Gaga’s intros, pre-chorus hooks, and bridges were almost signature components. We’ll never get the buildup of a Bad Romance again, and if you think “I don’t need a reason; not sorry I want your stupid love” compares to the intense, raw climax of BR’s bridge, I don’t know what to say.

Bridges are essentially extinct - RIP The Fame - and verses are literally two lines of unique writing on average. Can Gaga create catchy, exciting songs within 3 minutes? Sure. But, I couldnt care less about streams if I need to sacrifice the art of storytelling as found throughout Gaga’s entire earlier discography.

For the record, Gaga told a magazine in 2011 that 3:30 was the perfect length for a pop smash and I concur. 4:00 is my preference, but 3:30 for singles mixed with 4:30 deep cuts would be  a great combination.

I'm confused, do you agree or disagree because your post does both :ohwell:

Born This Way (album) wasn’t afraid to let songs breathe and go over 5 min; I miss this gaga :vegas:

I don’t care about song length as long as it’s good. It feels like fans just want to find something to complain about and say  “oh I miss when Gaga did this or that” John Wayne was perfectly fine with a short length. When a song is enjoyable I don’t even pay attention to how long it actually was.

It’s not the 80s or 90s anymore :neyde:

Most pop hits in 2020 are about this long—it doesn’t mean it’ll be a “disappointing” track just because it’s shorter than songs released over 30 years ago.

lol i just realized we waited a week for a 3:02 song but i guess it’s better than waiting 3:02 for a 168 hour song 😩

To be fair, songs were that short in the '50s and '60s as well, so in a sense modern pop songs are a return to form in regards to time lengths. Still not fun for a dance song though.
