many support the lockdown *because theyre not the ones most at risk of the economic impacts* tbh...it's easy to be able to sit at home with AC, a stocked fridge, and access to the internet and preach about *social distancing*

I know. I talked about that in another comment

Not everyone lives in rich countries that can afford to pay them enough to stay home and get by even if they struggle

We have food banks too. In many countries even that is not as easily available

This pandemic has really ****ed up the entire world...not only are people dying from the virus, but people are starving, homeless, broke, and desperation breeds riots, crime rates, etc... :saladga:

We saw the same thing with Spanish flu (and H1N1, ebola, and SARs to a lesser extent).

The first world countries picked themselves back up and went on with their lives (some like the US with the roaring 20s, and the booms in China after SARs), while the developing world suffers as they already have week social systems in place and mainly corrupt governments and industry.

Latin America, Asia, and Africa getting screwed over as always.

I’m a lockdown supporter (as long as it is feasible and necessary and if governments can support their people) and this is not shocking.

You’re not exactly geniuses for predicting this btw :rip:

The government of Chile also doesn't have the state resources necessary to put a succesful lockdown in place, in order to protect the population. First of all, idk the specifics but the lockdown there doesn't look very strict. Also, Chile is led by a right-wing president and it doesn't have any system to offer public and free healthcare or education, the state is practically absent in that sense, so it's obvious the people will be angry toward the idea of the lockdown since they don't even have a system that helps them survive these times like many other countries do. And it's not a problem of money, since Chile has the means to do it. It's just ideology.

Ikvs

I'd blame more the terrible action the government has taken than the lockdown itself (which in the capital started like 4 days ago)
