It's possible that the confusion over shame/chain or other messiness in the production got them to master it better for the album version. This would also explain why the album was removed from Apple Music, if they're re-adding it with an improved quality SL. If that's the case, I'm here for it. It's always bothered me that Applause isn't the same sound quality as all the other tracks on ARTPOP.

Yeah I thought about that too. But I don’t hear a difference in the quality of applause and the other tracks on the album?

You know how she promoted and promoted that all the tracks on ARTPOP were designed to sound amazing on any set of speakers? Applause is always flat compared to the rest. The song is a slightly lower volume than the other tracks and the instrumental doesn't HIT speakers the same way. It's not as noticeable on streaming quality, but it always stood out to me on the CD.
