Their relationship was not healthy, they were in entirely different places. Elio was coming of age, exploring himself and his sexuality, he was a vulnerable and sensitive kid. Oliver was older, a lot more mature in many ways . Oliver was a predator tbh. Plus, the fact that they chose a much more older actor to portray him is kind of a problem. ‘If religion be the cause of disunity, then irreligion is surely to be preferred.’ ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

It’s very common for young gays to have unhealthy relationships with older men. It’s actually very realistic. I actually like it when LGBT movies don’t sugarcoat things like some others that show vanilla stories like Love, Simon

Idk if we can say Oliver was a predator, idk but it is the case in many gay kids life to have their first or early sexual encounters with someone quite older. Happened to me and my friends, and idk we all willfully walked into those situations. In retrospect tho, I wish I had waiting to lose my virginity until I reached 20 tbh. It would’ve been nice but ce la vie!

Portraying something on the media doesn’t make it normal necessarily. And it’s still something that will happen even if they don’t portray it on any movie. And did their relationship work out? Did they live happily ever after? Exactly. The point was that their relationship was unhealthy, I don’t think the movie really encouraged it you’re the one who’s seeing that way.
