And because Lady Gaga writing a song (now two) about dead souls was something... I don’t have the words explain this.
She named a whole album after her dead aunt. I mean. Gaga did it. We didn’t do nothing

Then refer to her as Joanne, you know, her actual name

Yeah, but did she name the album, "the dead aunt"? No. It's a project created to pay tribute/respect to a family member that passed away and people go around calling the album that while trashing it.

I think it’s MOSTLY haters though, not Gaga fans. I know there are some horrible people in the fan community (I mean, I feel like there are bad apples across all fanbases, really), but who the hell would actually say that unironically and mean it? No one who actually loves and respects Gaga would. Ever.

By the way, I really hate this misconception that she specifically named the album after her aunt. Didn’t she say at one point that the title also refers to herself? Remember during the era she constantly referred to herself as Joanne?? It’s one of her middle names. So in a way, you can say the album was a self-titled title, but without it explicitly being her professional stage name. I think the actual song Joanne is what’s meant to directly refer to her aunt. Because, obviously, not every single song on the album is about HER. :saladga:

See what I'm saying? Imagine being old enough to understand that what you're saying is disrespectful and still thinking like this.

I do. Just if someone said that she wrote an album with the main theme being her passed away aunt is not disrespectful is true. It’s mostly the WAY you say those things that shows the intention.

It’s as been a joke in almost every pop forum pop blog. Not only fans reacted to this in that way.

After ARTPOP and vomit it was a real change in the direction of her works. It clearly stands out and it worked:

Everyone know is about a passes away relative: her dead aunt.

Is “dead” a slur?

I mean, she is dead. That is why Gaga made it the album title/concept (other than being her middle name) Also 'Joanne' the album has 'Grigio Girls' which is about her dead best friend:( I don't think there's nothing wrong in celebrating life and accepting death in an album, it's not disrespectful to me. Even Gaga said: "Every song on this album is completely autobiographical.. these songs are implicitly related to things relating to my life."

You guys: c’mon she talked about this so many times in the interview and she was pretty clear about the fact that she passed away before she can even met her. What were you waiting if not some dark internet humor?

Nobody is calling Grigio Girls the dead friend song

Respectfully discussing the album and mentioning that it's about her dead aunt, that's fine and stating facts

Being a 'funny' Twitter c**t and calling it the "yeehaw dead aunt album", not fine

There's a difference

Lol people abbreviate everything but they must go out of their way to call Joanne "the dead aunt album", so much easier right...

Gaga wrote Grigio Girls before Sonja passed away though.

But why would you refer to her as the "dead aunt". That is highly disrespectful. You wouldn't say that in person. She has a name, which is Joanne. Refer to her as Joanne and the album too.

And as @ToxicHot stated, the album revolves around the struggles her family dealt with the passing of Joanne and revolves around Gaga witnessing those struggles.

Her fans aren't referring to it in a "autobiographical way", evident by these posts:

Behold, trash ^

And there are many GGD members who do this too. I won't tag them, but they know who they are.

So yes, its very disrespectful.

People will make a joke over pretty much anything on the internet, like they think it doesn't matter as much because it's not in person I guess

Oh I totally get it. Just to answer WHY is that way. Why people are calling Joanne that way? Because the whole internet and beyond called the album that way. Dead/Passed Away - Tomato/Tomato

She wanted to made it clear she was her dead/passed away aunt. Every article that talked about Joanne had this information in their text.

The same happened with her promo for a star is born. “I can have a 100 ppl in the room...”

For Joanne It was humor, dark humor ok, but still humor...
