I loved Azealia until she became extremely arrogant and began lashing out on others on Twitter. I think she's extremely talented but she just needs to stop being so bitter.

I would die

A part of me really thinks the delay could be related, but then I remember I am a Gaga fan and am just delusional.

Oh, well...we can keep dreaming!

Audiovisual images DO mean things.

Things have subtext, often regardless of whether we want them to or not.

That being said, there's no way I'm overa--lyzing lol, because I haven't even attributed any symbolic, metaphoric, or interpretive meaning to any of this (mostly because I don't think it has any).

This is where you lost me.

I don't know how you can say images have meanings, but in the case of Yung Rapunxel, it has no meaning.

I don't know what everyone else watched, but I took the whole video as a clear and direct ode to illuminati.

Aside from that, if you're truly saying that you can't find anything in this, I think you're just lazy. One could EASILY interpret the scenes of her with the police officers as the "enforcer of rules" vs. the rule breaker. She's acting crazy, trying to break the rules, but it's not even phasing the police. Azealia is a darker-skinned black female emcee who raps over house beats, is supportive of gay rights, and is known for her Twitter fights, yet her impact isn't as big as it should be. She's screaming and hitting them with champagne bottles, but they barely flinch. This can be viewed as the general public.

The rest of the scenes are obviously all allusions to mythology, Hinduism, spirituality, witchcraft, and most importantly, the symbols of the illuminati.

The people who say the YR video needs a deeper meaning needs to realize that everyone can't be Gaga. The images look good. What else more is there to say?

I'm saying everything has some sort of meaning. It's impossible to make an image that doesn't convey SOMETHING to its audience. But I'm saying whatever meaning is here, in this video, is confused, dull and not very intriguing. This video has a meaning, and communicates something: it communicates a muddled vision, an artist trying to provoke. But I don't think it has any interpretive or symbolic meaning.

You then provided me was an explication of the scenes of her rioting against the police squad. Discussing her powerlessness and level of agency is an interesting viewpoint that I hadn't considered. Which is why I said, I'm MORE than happy to listen to people explain what they think is working here, or how it's working. You've increased my own appreciation for this video. I still don't think that idea  is communicated in a particularly interesting or elegant or layered way--but it's something to latch on to, at the very least. One could also discuss the sad irony it evokes since she's really become her own worst enemy to her cultural influence. Images that conveyed THAT could have made for a very interesting video.

And I understand that the other images recall different mythologies and strains of mysticism or the occult--but that's observation, and less a reading. Randomly collecting mystical icons is not interesting to me. And I fail to see how it ties in a meaningful way to the scenes of rioting. Though again, I'm happy to hear thoughts.

To me this video plays as a cobbled together string of images Azealia probably thought were cool or disarming. I don't think they're either of those things.

I'm also not saying every video HAS to convey deep symbolic or metaphorical meaning. Not everything has to have deep, rich subtext. But if it's not going to, there should obviously be something formally, stylistically, or conceptually noteworthy about it. And I don't find that here, either. Like I said, I find it a pretty trite collection of images, to be honest.

I don't HATE this video. I've certainly seen many, many, many worse. It's pretty middle of the road. But the over the moon reaction is strange to me. But to each their own. People, even around here, often hate on Alejandro and Marry the Night, which I think are two of Gaga's best.

Can't we just stop fighting? I understand where kupo's coming from, and everyone is allowed to have their opinions and express them in as lengthy of a post as they want. Let's just enjoy the fact that Azealia's first album is coming out. C'mon guys.
