Sonically, the album is not that cohesive. Yeah, they're similar in the sense that they're much more analog and "raw" than her other albums, but songs like Come to Mama, DIC, A-YO, Just Another Day, Hey Girl, and PI all sound like they belong on different albums. NFRatwell 23,290
The Fame is basically her messing around with being either that club mysterious girl Just Dance, Paparazzi... and the poppy girl in Eh, Eh, Summerboy, etc. I think you can easily split the album in these two groups. To me TFM is her most consistent album, at least sonically.
ARTGOD 3,266
Lyrically? Maybe. Sonically? Hell no. The Fame is a mess sound-wise because you get tracks that were written in wildly different stages. You have tracks that sound like her Stefani Germanotta material (Brown Eyes, Summerboy, Again Again), stuff that’s more disco (the Rob Fusari material), the dance pop stuff with RedOne, and attempts at being urban in case that caught on. I vividly remember introducing my brother to her discography and the first thing he said after listening to the album was “that was cute, but messy”, while he thought every subsequent album was more coherent. I think I have listened to the singles first, then listened to the album - so it didn't feel very bad. Comparing any other albums of her I always found a point of particular where there is a lack of serious cohesiveness - TFM has that problem, but it doesn't bother me too much! Noir 17,410
You can compliment an album without dragging others. With that being said, The Fame Monster is her most cohesive work.

Yeah... Joanne had a few bad apples (not as in bad songs, just they didn’t seem to help the direction of the album) that made it sound not so consistent. PI and DIC come to mind. Other than that I hear a distinct sound. Especially in her voice, you can tell a song was from that album by hearing the raspiness she applies to her voice. The album (disregarding the two songs I mentioned) is focused on 60s/70s analogue sounds though.

Lord Temptation 11,209
But all of Gaga’s albums are cohesive, either lyrically, thematically, sonically, aestheticaly or all-of-the-above. ARTPOP, if it seemed all over the place, well that was the point. The concept of war between art and pop and how that clash generates destruction and creativity. Joanne had a central theme of spirits/country/discovery that permeated the album, even if some tracks stuck out like a sore thumb as incongruous with the rest of the album (namely Dancin’ in Circles and Perfect Illusion). Chromatica so far also feels very cohesive: a space-age quest to find perfection through the speed and frequency of moving shapes and colours. But The Fame is incredible because she made it when she was only 19-22, yet it was so well-conceived and executed like a master. And fame as a subject is not as superficial as it sounds. I mean, fame and fortune are two heads of the same beast. And we all know money makes the world go round. The Fame is a 10/10 from any artist at any age, let alone a debut artist.
