Diamond Heart is an epic song. That's all I have to contribute.

It would have flopped even harder than PI. A terrible choice for a single, as much as I like the song

Am I the only one who loves Perfect Illusion? I wish she gave it a proper TV performance!

The only problem I can see with it is that it gets too shouty halfway through and when it sounds like it's over there's yet another chorus of IT WASN'T LOVE IT WASN'T LOVE :fan:

I love perfect illusion ,its my best song off joanne, just thought it wasnt promoted as what it was and it released  at a wrong time

No, there was a thread about that a few days ago I think

I don't know much about it since I never used streaming services other than YouTube, but I guess they are updating Gaga's channels

yeah PI was a bad lead choice. I think honestly that a ballad would’ve made the perfect lead. It’s a huge 360, but honestly Sinner’s Prayer could’ve been a great single on Adult Contemporary & Country radio. Country radio is MASSIVE and CONSTANT promo.

Imagine: “Lady Gaga goes country, drops new lead Sinner’s Prayer” circa Sept 2016

AYO as promo single sometime in mid October

Followed by John Wayne as single 2 to coincide with the album release, shifted to Thanksgiving (presuming SP was a hit, mirrors ARTPOP release). A true rock country hit!

MR released in January with Grammys performance, followed by Superbowl bump.

Diamond Heart as single 4 later in spring to launch the Joanne Ball tour. Massive music video, very Americana themed. Summer hit

Finishes with title track Joanne being the fifth and final single in end of August.

Honestly, Joanne songs had lots of hit potential. I’d say the only songs that would not blow up were PI, DIC, and Hey Girl. They are just a bit too odd. I could even see Come to Mama having some potential.

I am printing this & framing it on my wall. Yes yes! 100%. Love your thinking. Yes why didn’t this happen!

Queen Gloria

So, it would've been more successful if she sat down and deconstructed exactly what she was doing and took away the natural process of songwriting/creating an album/aesthetic? If she did a talk show interview and said "I'm pretending I'm a country singer now, this aesthetic is only going to last for one album, and then I'll go back to being Mother Monster. I don't want to upset my pop loving fans  so I'm warning them that this Joanne persona is only temporary."? I don't get your logic, OP. That's like a movie with too much exposition, beating the meaning over the audience's head. I think it was a natural progression for her to explore her more country/rock side, artists are allowed to freely flow between genres and experiment without having to put it in words at the risk of upsetting fans. You're saying that she should have pre-warned people that Joanne was going to be divisive so it would be less jarring? Lol, alright. I suppose she should do an interview for Chromatica and explain that she isn't actually an otherworldly pink haired alien goddess, and that she is in fact just Lady Gaga playing one of her characters, so no one gets confused. She doesn't have to explain why she's doing something different, that would take away the surprise and enigma of who she is.
