Alice: a theory

(Sorry if this has been discussed before)

Let me share a theory I have about a track that everyone seems very intrigued by: ALICE.

My first thought when I saw the song title was Alice in Wonderland.

alice in wonderland thank you GIF

Brief recap, Alice in Wonderland is a literary classic from Lewis Carroll whereby a young girl called Alice falls through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated with 'peculiar and anthromorphic creatures'.

Spoiler

Probably a reach here though...

The reason I think this might be interesting to point out is this: Maybe Gaga (or Stefani) is taking the role of Alice and is stepping into the world of Chromatica like Alice did into Wonderland? The fact that it's so early on in the tracklist makes me think that.

You could take it even further and suggest it may be Stefani falling into the world of Chromatica, which may even represent our modern world...politics, money, fame, a world made even more complicated now she is 'Gaga'.

So if Alice is our eyes into Chromatica, how is she introduced? Track 3: Stupid Love...

"You're the one that I've been waiting for..."

Alice in Chromatica. But obviously Gaga is Alice, falling down into a world of wonder.
This was my first thought upon seeing the track list.

And that’s why “in Chromatica no one thing is greater than another”.  I bet people will appreciate SL so much more after hearing it in context within the album.

That's a good theory! I also thought of Alice in Wonderland right away, altho I was more thinking the song could be about drug use, or mental illness, or just about growing up since the story has these elements

In “Stupid Love" Gaga comes from an unknown place.

Maybe “Alice” music video will be a prequel...

I’m a dreamer ❤️

Sort of what I was thinking also. And would make sense it being the first song (other than Chromatica I) to talk about her entering the world of Chromatica.

It's a reference to Alice In Chains.

Because well, she's in chains in the cover, because she's the source of all good things on Chromatica

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

REALITY

I've been saying this since Day 1 :trollga:

It's also fitting cause it's the opener of the album (not counting Chromatica I).

I also think that the cover art is invoking that same Alice in Wonderland theme as well. It looks like the pink gate acts as a "portal" to Chromatica, similar to the portal of Wonderland.

Not to mention, when talking to Zane Lowe about the album, she described the creative process as her "opening a portal into another realm" to hear her "fairies." It all seems very "Wonderland" to me.

Ever since we got the tracklist I've been thinking of Alice like this classique

Can't wait to see what it's actually like!

Definitely seems possible.

I'm really kinda hoping that Alice as a track will almost be intro-less seeing as it's so short, and that Chromatica I can be enjoyed as not just an intro to the album but phase right into Alice and serve as it's intro too. Kinda like Mylo Xyloto/Hurts Like Heaven from Mylo Xyloto if you've heard it

ADVENTURE

I like it! Hope it’s true!

There is a users name here that alludes to this theory. I saw it the other day but I don’t remember who it was.
