History was made at Disney’s youngest park today as Shanghai Disneyland became the first Disney Park to reopen after a wave of closures in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the Shanghai Disneyland entrance, characters waved to guests from a safe distance. While guests are strongly encouraged to wear masks, face characters like the Disney Princesses do not wear masks in order to keep story integrity.

During this initial phased reopening, the park is limiting capacity to 30%, or under 24,000 guests, by order of the government. All guests must obtain an advance reservation in order to enter the park and undergo a series of temperature screenings and safety checks before being let into the park.

Despite strict new protocols, guests seemed overjoyed to be back at their happy place. Spring decor is still up throughout the park, and Cast Members are making sure to wipe down and sanitize railings and high-touch points.

wonderful news and shows us that the “new normal” isn’t gonna be as apocalyptic as some media outlets would like us to believe.

Never knew there’s a Disneyland there. :enigma:

Weird that China would open a theme park that caters to such a large crowd. :saladga:

Unlike what some do to downplay this virus and blame the media for "apocalyptic" narratives, it's nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We all know the world would open up eventually. At least that's what normal level headed folks do in times of pandemics. But also glad to see the protective measurers needed. Reopening things doesn't equate to letting in everyone in at the same time. I'm sure the US won't be as precautious due to how strict China is, but expect similar changes.

I was supposed to go to Disney World later this summer, but I'm not even sure how that'll work now. I've been watching Disney YouTubers about the reopening and the whole thing is a mess. Masks in the middle of a Florida summer? I'm sure that cases and deaths numbers will be way down compared to now, but still so many questions left to answer unfortunately.

Shanghai is over 500 miles away from the China epicenter in the Wuhan area. So I'm assuming that it's just safer because of that reason. And the fact that China apparently was able to control the spread.

And at least they're doing limited capacity and special identification cards that allow entry based on health or something to that degree. They're very strict.

It’s Disney’s newest park and it’s pretty amazing! Truly one of a kind. Highly recommend watching some ride POVs from there. The Pirates of the Caribbean is awesome!

I believe the Magic Kingdom park in Florida holds between 80k and 100k people. Shanghai was built with big crowds in mind, so everything's more spread and I believe it holds an even higher capacity.

They'll still have to be extremely careful in how they handle ride queues, restaurants, shopping and such, though.

it's 963 acres, it is big enough. and definitely bigger than Disney California (85 Acres), and Disney Hong Kong (68 acres)

Sizes in comparison:

Disney Florida 30,000 acres

Disney Paris 4,800 acres

Disney Tokyo 114 acres

DisneySea Japan 176 acres

Disney Calif. Adventure 72 acres

From these, we know Disney  Shanghai is 3rd largest Disney park in the world.
