27monster27 13,223
This is an idea that I just came up with for a 2012 Marry the Night Grammy performance. The song would be performed in full, with some added elements. This diagram will be helpful for context of certain stage terms.: ---- Opening Dialogue: After a few seconds of a telephone ringing sound effect, a dialogue beings. The performance opens with the dialogue from the Marry the Night music video where Lady Gaga is talking over the phone and is notified that she had been dropped from her record label (For the performance, it will be in English and not French.). Entrance: A loud crashing sound is heard, and the lights and camera pan to a damaged car on stage right with Lady Gaga inside of it. The synth heard before the song plays in the music video begins. We see Lady Gaga inside of the car struggling to get out; she gets out by the help of paramedics once the synths end. Hospital Bed and Song Beginning: After getting out of the car, she is put on to a hospital bed, which is put in the center of the stage. Lady Gaga is in an outfit similar to her 2011 Jingle Ball performance, except her hair is in a bun under the hospital cap. As the bed is moved, the A Very Gaga Thanksgiving special version of Marry the Night begins playing. The song continues as this version until the pre-chorus is reached, when it transitions to the Grammy nominations version with the electric guitars entering along with the pre-chorus. (@1:00) Once this happens, Lady Gaga stands up on the hospital bed while singing. After the first chorus she gets off of the hospital bed, and moves in front of it; this is where the choreography begins Post Hospital Bed and First Outfit Change: Just before and during the second pre-chorus, her hair is taken out of the bun and goes into a ponytail in addition to an outfit change that happens on stage. Lady Gaga sheds all of her hospital attire and reveals an outfit similar to the one below, minus the face mask and shoulder pads.: In the second chorus she does the full choreography. During the end of the second chorus the car from the beginning is moved downstage, and Lady Gaga stands on top of it to sing the bridge. As Marry the Night moves to the third chorus, she would then do the choreo and sing on top of the car. Transition to Final Outfit Change: As the post-chorus begins, Lady Gaga then sings and runs upstage behind a curtain for the final outfit change. The car would be moved back to stage right. Her dancers would come both center and downstage and do choreo akin to the performance below (@3:35).: While this happens, a second car is moved the side of the stage at stage left. Lady Gaga comes out where "the night" vocals begin, revealing an outfit similar to the one below.: Her hair is still in a ponytail, and she also has red fishnets on with red and yellow high heels. (Yes, the color change is important.) From this moment on, Lady Gaga continues the ending of the song with the Marry the Night choreography. As this happens, both of the cars on stage have staged "explosions" happen randomly (In reality, it is just fire being shot out of the car windows; I am not sure if the Grammy's would even allow staged explosions. If so, then I would change the performance accordingly.). The song ends the same way as it does in the X-Factor and Grammy Nominations Concert above. During the ending synths, several cables are discreetly lowered center stage. Ending: The lights briefly go out, and Lady Gaga immediately puts on wings and a hat similar to those shown below.: Lady Gaga is attached to the cables, and is slowly raised up into the air as a pheonix (This is why the outfit color change happened.). As this happens, the "ominous" music that happens at the end of the Marry the Night music video plays, and a projection onto the wall upstage shows large flames. The goal is for it to look like this.: As the final sound effect from the music video plays, Lady Gaga strikes a pose, a flash of lighting is portrayed in the projection, and final "explosions" happen simultaneously in each of the cars. ---- Performance Meaning: The performance chronicles Lady Gaga's rise to fame after she is dropped from Def Jam, and is meant to be empowering. The car and hospital bed scenes show her recovery, while the post-hospital bed scene shows her hard work performing to make it big. The final outfit change and her dancing on top of the car shows off her new found power, and how she is no longer ashamed of her failures. The finale is meant to recap how she worked to be a "pheonix" that rose from the ashes of her failures. The flash of lighting is a nod to her explosion on the scene during The Fame era, as that era did have a lot of David Bowie inspired lighting bolt imagery. Potential Impact: The main impact would be that Lady Gaga would have more of a presence in pop culture in 2012 than in reality. Marry the Night, which was still charting at this time, would get a temporary boost on the charts. Hopefully this would lead to the song being more well remembered by the GP, even if it is just a bit. I do not believe that this performance would have much of an impact on Born This Way Ball conception nor rehearsals; same thing with early ARTPOP conception and creation. he/him/his

kabirartfling 9,063
It's kinda tragic how born this way ended without a hit single or a Grammy win. But oh well we got other great things! I think the concept of this performance is great but to think that she would put in so much effort and costume changes for a song that's already a dead horse is kinda sketchy, I can see her do it though just not the last part with the wings and mask, that's not her... Also she did at the vmas 2009 so she would never repeat a similar ending. Give your love to me
