Free Woman is a demo from 2018, far from the final version

Stupid Love was the final version leaked when exported to be sent to the final mastering stage

i hope this is true

The instrumental is hardly mixed and mastered :lmao: argh, so many people on here acting like they got a BA (Hons) in Music Production or something :air:

The instrumental alone sounds as it is mixed and mastered, and I'm a pro music producer so I think I know what I'm saying, (still I might be wrong). It's definitely a higher quality than, for example, Brooklyn Nights or Nothing On.

The vocals of course are not.

As a pro music producer, you know that the vocals and instrumental would be mastered together? And that a higher quality doesn't necessarily mean mastered, if it's done poorly, or if it's done for a quick demo export (as this probably is)?

inb4 the final version is different and the little monstrosities start complaining about how "the demo leak was better" :rip:

they'll compain about that even if the final version ends up being the exact same 10 second teaser

FW is soooo good. I’ve been waiting for a song like that from Gaga for so long, like a big disco/80s Chaka Khan-esque bop. Ever since Fashion of His Love I’ve been hoping she would go straight into the retro sound and FW is basically that and more :flutter:

I master instrumental and vocals separately and then I do a final mastering using those. There are different equally valid methods, it becomes rather subjective at a certain point, but I believe producers such as Bloodpop and other big names do that way (otherwise how could you explain so many demos in which only instrumental sounds final and vocals not or viceversa?)

Even Gaga's demos are better than anything these pop girlies are putting out nowadays

Okay. I think there's an argument here as to what mastering means in that case.

Obviously instrumentals and vocals come into being at different points. There's always the chance that someone could be writing to track, or that the production was worked on without final vocals. In cases like this, the instrumental could be further along in the production process than the vocals, which can explain why the instrumental might sound 'further along' than the vocals in their production.

However, I disagree with the idea that mastering happens to the instrumentals and vocals. Mastering by its nature involves compression (in some form) to the appropriate loudness. If you did that with the instrumentals and vocals separately, surely that would all go wrong? And if you're not working on the loudness, then I would just call that mixing

I prefer to mix it all together, and that's just a difference of production methods for sure. But I don't believe this demo is indicative that they do it either way. It seems as though the production was just further along in the production process to me  Maybe the vocals had just been put into the track or something, which I think is perfectly plausible from my experience.

SL's date on the leak also said January 2019. That's speculation, we know nothing, nor do we know if the dates mean anything or if it really is a demo from 2018.

This clarification is for those complaining for Free Woman audio quality.

There is a difference between this leak and Stupid Love's.

In Stupid Love's leak, a final mastering encompassing both vocals and instrumental was already done (with very minor tweaks to the official release)

In Free Woman's leak, only the instrumental is mixed and mastered, whereas vocals still lack the mastering process within the instrumental. That means when the song will be officially released, you will notice a much more noticeable quality difference than Stupid Love's leak vs official.

Swear mastering is done all the end of the track when it's all finished though. This is also a pretty LQ leak of the song, could easily be the final version for all we know but the bitrate is ****

I tried to explain it in a synthetic way in my post so that everyone could kinda understand.

I (as other italian colleagues of mine) do compression separately (otherwise I would have used the word mixing) but maybe that depends partially on the software you use (?) I use Cubase and it definitely works better this way.
