Do you think Gaga isn't reviewed fairly when it comes to her music?

Yeah but we've come quite far in 10 years from critics treating pop like trash and women being judged by their looks and sex appeal. Not only was she the biggest showcase of dance pop music, but she was a loud woman constantly getting on your face and using sex however she liked. Also the fact that mainstream isn't cool for these edgy girls and she was everywhere.

I definitely feel BTW and ARTPOP got reviewed unfairly. It was a weird mix of:

1) it was cool and edgy to hate on her at the time

2) but at the same time, expectations were higher for her because of how big and avante garde she had crafted her image to be. If it wasn’t revolutionary, it was disappointing.

stuff like TFM and Joanne feel like they got rightfully acclaimed for what they were. But that phase in the middle felt a bit off considering those two are mainly her fans’ favorite albums.

Do y’all think Chromatica will be her best reviewed album?

I think the stage is set for it. Outlets seem to be pretty excited for her to return to pop, and SL was actually pretty acclaimed lol, even when it didn’t reinvent the wheel.

Critics are about having a narrative not so much about music itself. I think this time she has the narrative on her side for the first time ever

What gives me hope is how Dua’s and The Weeknd’s albums were so well received. Because tbh although I love both, neither are near BTW for example. Now Chromatica has many things going for it, but mostly I think the cleaner production, the less layering of vocals, the fact that it comes after Joanne and ASIB so that popga feels fresh again, it has many things going for it. On top of that critics seemed to like SL and I have an inkling that tho probably really good in the context of the album, it isn’t going to be exactly the best song individually. I say we are facing what’s gonna be gaga highest acclaimed pop album

I’m not trying to discredit you, but there is basis to these allegations of bias:

a prime example:

like this guy I think really tries to be as objective as he can be within his subjectivity, and YET he did this to BTW. An album that in my opinion does way more interesting stuff (and im not shading cause i love her) than Carly Rae Jepsen which he loves to give a good score to.

this is just to show that it has happened and that her persona sometimes obscures what she’s doing musically

That review is so terrible, yet he actually is an honest music critic. But to this day I hate that album cover. It's the biggest mistake she made in her career.

Yes. But not as much as it was before. Many BTW and ARTPOP reviews were straight up trash. Also there’s this unfair expectation for gaga which is sort of a complement to always go beyond and be outlandish and when it’s too safe reviewers won’t like it.

I think now too it’s also a matter of Gaga not yet delivering a “cohesive” work. As monsters we will disagree but sometimes Gaga doesn’t edit (trim) well with her work. There’s this tendency for the vision to get lost as the album runs. If she released TFM now and it has two more tracks it would be acclaimed. By the middle of last decade reviewers expect a statement record from an established act. Unfortunately BTW came before that.
