I haven't really liked anything she's done since the 80s tbh except that one where she dances around in a leotard with all the fit boys. A huge portion of the album had a voice about art, gender, and sexuality. There is no other Lady Gaga album with so much actual meaning. Born This Way has a legacy that is markedly different than the many self-love/acceptance songs and albums that have come before and after it. Look no further than the fact that the album was temporarily banned in Lebanon or that large groups of people would rally outside her shows because they saw it as propaganda. Born This Way wasn’t even the most controversial song from the album. The legacy of the album doesn’t end with the lead single. Sonically, the album brought euro-pop and dance-pop to a darker place in a way that the radio noticed. It also encouraged the explosion of EDM. There’s a list that goes on and on... I’d probably say her most ambitious album was ARTPOP, but ARTPOP was fundamentally flawed because she herself could not succinctly communicate what the concept of the album was and most of the tracks did not tie back to what she could say of it. Born This Way wasn’t gratuitous. She actually had things to say. On ARTPOP she tried to say things but she didn’t even know what she was saying half of the time. On Chromatica she’s not trying to say much. The Chromatica concept is paper-thin and it sonically could not be more trendy for pop music.
