It's not just Trump though but also those who voted him into office. Think of the people who stormed the Michigan Capitol with firearms, the armed people who got up in law enforcement officers' faces, the people congregating in large crowds without masks as they pressure their state governments to reopen...His base wants this. I don't think they want 3000 deaths daily of course, but they want to have their so-called "freedoms" back and don't want the government bossing them around, and they think Covid-19 is a hoax or that the death rate and symptoms are greatly exaggerated...Trump being elected president is a symptom of a larger problem we have in this country. 

It's infuriating. It makes me sad to see places like New Zealand and Taiwan and Hong Kong getting back to "normal" and going days (weeks?) without new cases locally transmitted, whereas the virus is out of control in the US because we do't have the infrastructure to support people to stay home without risking financial ruin, we don't have decent healthcare for everyone, and people are so damn selfish that they don't want to wear masks and want to be able to go back to Old Town Country Buffet and their nail salons and their shopping malls ASAP.
