gagzus 16,004
Time waiting / load screens - The Sims 1 Design possibilities in both CAS and Build/Construction mode - The Sims 4 Playability: the possibilities of creating your own stories. With or without cheat codes - The Sims 2 Most content from the base game - The Sims 2 Editing neighbourhoods - The Sims 3 Easiest controls and buttons - The Sims 3 But overall I prefer The Sims 4 for for what I prefer which is building lots

Quentin 6,148
I've played every Sims game! I remember downloading the free additional content in The Sims 2 and then placing + using cars without even owning the Night Life add-on The Sims 3 had really a huuge amount of things to do! Into The Future was just insaane, one of my favorites add-ons I was disappointed by TS4 at first, but now I like it much more I can't really choose Follow every rainbow till you find your dream
SHALLOW 16,427
I think The Sims 4 is definitely the better built game even tho it's also the most boring when it comes to gameplay. I honestly love Build and Buy and the CAS on TS4. TS2 is overrated imo. It has a lot of awesome features for gameplay but the game is super buggy and the building tools and CAS are embarassing. TS3 is the most balanced but it takes too much to load and it's super laggy even on high end computers. So I'd say my fave is TS4, kinda boring but runs smooth and looks cool, for the rest you can use mods

andreas85 400
I like the first three a lot. I haven't played the fourth one yet because it looks quite boring. If I had to choose the best I'd say The Sims 3 mostly because it has open world and I also like watching how my sims slowly grow up, get older, and do stuff. The open world could be more dynamic but I still like it. Lagging is a problem but it doesn't bother me too much and The Sims 3 expansion packs are probably the best ones in the series. Sims have no personalities, traits barely affect gameplay, their AI sucks, emotions make all the sims feel the same and the fact that we went from an open world to closed tiny worlds with loading screens it's sad. And I hate how they are dividing features we used to have in EP into game packs and stuff packs. No it's not. It runs so good even on low specs, CAS is actually fashionable and super customizable (also the CC is way better), the Build and Buy is so f***ing good if you compare it to 2 and 3 and the worlds look amazing. TS2 is a joke when you use its build and buy and you see those ugly outfits TS3 is a joke when your game freezes every few minutes

Things to consider: - Time waiting / load screens - Design possibilities in both CAS and Build/Construction mode - Playability: the possibilities of creating your own stories. With or without cheat codes - Most content from the base game - Editing neighborhoods - Easiest controls and buttons Probably one of the later versions, like Sims 3, which was huge. But I've only ever owned and properly played Sims 1, such precious memories with that game, so I voted that. I can get Sims 4 for an amazingly cheap price, but I've seen nothing but negative reviews in Metacritic and game sites. Has anyone here played it, and why it is considered so bad? Surely it's an improvement on Sims 3, current-gen games always get better, don't they?
LOVE JUNKIE 3,299
I was just thinking about making this thread last night But thank you for doing the dirty work It's Sims 3 all the way for me. I finally got my old computer (c. 2011) up and running again so I've been playing Sims 3 all day everyday. I owned every EP for TS2 and TS3 and every EP GP + SP for TS4 and I can confidently say TS3 is the best experience for me. Open World + Create A Style just make the possibilities feel endless. Not to mention the Create A World tool which has allowed people to make amazing custom worlds as well. The replay value of this game is ridiculous and the gameplay just feels so fun and free and random and it's just great There are some things about TS2 that are superior. University and Apartments were the best in this gen and having a cheat for unlimited floors in build mode was amazing. Also the storytelling and care, love and detail put into everything from Sims backstories to object descriptions was just TS4 on the other hand is a mess and I feel scammed. I really wanted it to get better, but no matter how much dlc I add, the core of the game just isn't strong enough. TS4 launch day was the darkest day in the history of the Sims imo... Spoiler - No pools - No swimming anywhere - No terrain tools or water tool - No toddlers - No hot tubs - No placing new lots - Babies are objects - No lots bigger than 50x50 - No firefighters or burglars or repossession agents - No cars or bikes - No story progression - No traveling without a loading screen - 3 traits per sim instead of 5 - Less traits to choose from - No astrology signs or favorites - No trash compactors, billiard tables, food processor, blenders, etc - Limited differentiation between teen, young adult, adult and elder - No color wheel or even slider - Very limited hair color and skin tone options - No separated swatch options (i.e. picking bed frame and bedding colors separately) ...and there's probably some things I'm missing While some of those things have been added in packs and updates, many haven't. As much as it would have sucked, TS4 should've been delayed at least six months if not longer. The gameplay just isn't fun to me. I can still go back and enjoy TS2 even with its limitations. I've yet to get TS1 to run properly so I've only played it a little here and there but it was the first sims game I played back in the day at my neighbors house. I did have TS1 for console as well as Bustin' Out and Urbz and I absolutely loved those games and still revisit them every now and again. I don't know what's going on with EA / Maxis / The Sims Team, but I doubt things are going to get much better with TS5 considering how popular TS4 has been and how much money they've made with substantially less effort. I can only assume they're severely mismanaged and understaffed and don't have enough time/resources to do everything they want to do. That's really the only excuse I can think of on a three day bender

Has anyone here played it, and why it is considered so bad? Surely it's an improvement on Sims 3, current-gen games always get better, don't they? I'd say it's definitely a mixed bag. Create-A-Sim is great because you can literally just drag the sims features around to make them looks however you want (though it does take a while to master and there are limitations) but then that experience gets hindered by the limited hair and skin tone options and the odd clay-like hair. The worlds are just flat 2D maps that are broken up into neighborhoods that don't connect together. If you want to leave your Sims house (even just to go to your next door neighbor's house) you have to go through a loading screen. If you have a higher end computer the loading screens go quick and it's not that big of a deal. Worlds have less than 30 lots vs Sims 3 worlds which had 100+ and the ability to place even more. And there's still no cars even though players have been asking for them for 6 years. There's also no story progression (Sims from other households don't change or progress as you play) or open world so everything just feels very empty to me. On the more positive side, the game looks nice and might be the most stable Sims game. I think I've only had one or two crashes whereas Sims 3 crashes once or twice every time I play it. There's also some cool build tools that make building less of a hassle once you get used to them and the gallery is a cool feature that allows you to download other players builds and sims from within the game. IMO it's not an improvement from Sims 3 in any significant way, but some people love it. I'd recommend at least trying it out, but if you don't enjoy the experience of the base game don't bother getting any DLC. I own every pack and I still can't get myself to play for more than a few hours unless I'm just building. Meanwhile I could play TS2 or TS3 endlessly. on a three day bender
