She latches on to something and then it's all about how she wanted to do that her whole life. Honestly, it makes her sound disingenuous. This is why, for example, Fenty Beauty doesn't annoy me the way Haus Labs does. Rihanna never tried to make it about some grand vision. It's makeup. That's it, exactly - it's disingenuous. And when she is that way towards a concept that she has held so close to her art for many years, it's really disappointing to me. subtext / fantasy

Honestly, if she just went and said "Hey gheys and gurls, here's some makeup to go with Chromatica, and then some", it would be fine. Even if she made a GIANT promo campaign it would be fine. But no, she had to make it about "finding inner beauty through makeup" or something. That problem has been plaguing her since ARTPOP tbh. So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted. ShadowHunter 866
The point of warhol is make as much art and as much money as u can. Warhol was a capitalist. So is Gaga. What she is saying is, im finally able to capitalize on the reproduction of art, art for the people, but with a price. Thats warhol. Its fun. I love it. Why not make as much money as u can? Glamourpuss 29,062
I also think that the music and the makeup were supposed to merge together for this era and that's why we had the "Bobby we're using the song" snippets. But the pandemic has messed up the plans for both.

JCTS 152
Warhol printed bunch of soup cans and people called it art. She didn’t mean it to be “her artistic peak” as you said. Ever since The Fame shes been talking about how she wanted to use something from people’s everyday life (like gossip magazines, tabloids, tv etc.) and make art out of it. That’s why with ARTPOP she used a phrase “REVERSE worholian expedition” (she took fine art and commercialized it). What she meant with HL is that she can take something as simple as makeup and create unique and beautiful things with it. Warhol was printing celebrities’ pics on canvas and made it look like fine art, she’s releasing products that you can use as a tool to make your face (canvas) to look like a piece of art

It was commentary on consumerism and the cult to celebrity. Haus Labs is a company that sells run-of-the-mill make up through one of the most ruthless companies there is. I wouldn't say they were doing the same thing.

bluemonkey 639
It’s not that deep, she’s just saying stuff to sell products. If you look back at her life, performing is the big thing and she probably learned make up tricks from drags but she’s not a make up junkie. Never even showed the slightest hint of it before this whole Haus Labs started. how many times you hear beauty gurus claiming how much they poured blood sweat and tears into their pallets only to find out they just sat there and swatch samples and go “i like this” and go home. I mean she’s a Tisch music school drop out not a beauty school one. It was like back in the day when she became creative director for Polaroid and said that now her dad is happy that she finally has a real job. Art is supposed to be analysed and this is about Gaga's artistic vision for Haus Labs. I don't see anything wrong with discussing it.

But I wonder if she also feels like she's exaggerating / just saying things for the sake of hype/sales, or if she truly believes it once she repeats it enough. She's told us that she's kinda revisionist with some of her personal history (e.g. the MTN Prelude), so maybe she is with other areas of her life too, and convinces herself her current-passion has been her always-passion?: When I look back on my life it’s not that I don’t want to see things exactly as they happened, it’s just that I prefer to remember them in an artistic way. And truthfully the lie of it all is much more honest because I invented it. [...] It’s not that I have been dishonest; it’s just that I loathe reality. I'm not saying she completely makes up these statements -- I don't think she is -- but I do wonder if she's just telling herself that one of her past kinda-important side-goals (jazz, movie acting, performing at XYZ Famous Venue, feeling better through makeup, etc.) was now always the main goal or the sole guiding star she's been chasing, once it becomes her relevant passion. (P.S. I don't see this as a character fault or anything so don't read this post as me bashing her. I'm just curious how her mind works and how she reinterprets current and past events to move through trauma, her career highs and lows, etc. It's just fascinating and curious the same way I'd feel about anybody I'm a big fan of, or feel a great deal of affection for.) ⚡🐲

I wouldn't say they were doing the same thing. Still the same idea. Take something that everyone loves (food/celebrity/makeup),create some cool visuals with it and then put a higher meaning behind it to make it seem like a conceptual thing. She already pushed enough boundaries with her music and performances and showed how good she’s in it. She wrote about her hopes for the future of the company in this post. Give her some time. You can’t blame someone for not bending the boundaries when they’ve just started ESPECIALLY when it comes to business that involves a lot of people
