Unless 'Mental Health Awareness Month' is a bonus track on CHROMATICA I'm gonna have to pass

If you find this joke distasteful, I understand. It is and here's some context as to why i made it for those who aren't gonna read through every page of this thread...

I live with ADHD-PI, Cyclothymia and SAD (adhd, bipolar and anxiety) and I have no qualms with joking about mental health every now and again. I'm just generally indifferent... if she was putting out a documentary about mental health or supporting mental health related legislature I'd be really interested, but it's just an Instagram story about her donating money to her own foundation via her own cosmetic company. Which is great and all, but I already know about her foundation and its work so it isn't really news to me.

It is impossible to joke about anything in 2020

gay jokes are homophobic

trans jokes are transphobic

I have my own situation and joking about myself has become really helpful for me.

If she releases Chromatica she could make more money to put towards mental health awareness:stalkga:

The concern some people have is that they’re saying her music is the only thing that can help individuals cope with anxiety and depression. I find that to be the biggest sign of codependency, because then what happens to those same people who fall back into their slump when the era is over? It’s upsetting because when she tries to address how serious mental health is (which I know is affecting A LOT more people now with the lockdowns), people bash her and criticize her for prioritizing this over an album.

Best comment on this thread so far

To be fair, jokes don't necessarily exist in a vacuum.

Mental Health Awareness is more important to talk about than an album.

These comments are so annoying.

The fact that half of the comments are a joke about mental health connected with the current situation gives you how useless is lecturing others about what is right or not right ro joke.

If anyone keep get triggered by normal behavior maybe the problem is elsewhere and not in the joke herself.

Talking about mental health is important as much as talking about music for a pop star. Don’t forget, she’s raising awareness, not giving you the cure.

If you want ro have only serious and medical response to mental health you are in the wrong place. There are forum dedicated to this matters in a more depth way.

a joke in not always ment to diminishing the problem. Something it’s ment to cooperate with it.
In the comic scene a public will mostly laugh at situations their can reflect theirselves. In this case the situation is that we “are loosing our mind” about an album and she speak about mental health... there was nothing voluntarily mean in the comment.

life is not black or white. There are so many colors (in Chromatica), try to appreciate every tone of it.

As in, joking about yourself can be helpful, but it can still affect others. Particularly if it's not an identity that you are a part of (ex. trans jokes, by people who aren't trans, can be and usually are transphobic because of the dynamics of it coming from somebody who is not trans).

I'm responding to that comment in itself, in that there are very specific reasons why certain contexts of humor are outdated in 2020. I don't think it's impossible to joke about anything in 2020- rather, that as we become more aware of why certain aspects of humor, the concept of humor will grow and change.

It always does.

This is the most liked comment on her post, pretty funny:

you dont know how many pain you give for every monster in this moment.
If really the "mental health" care you, literally you hadnt posponed the album. With the quarantine all of us have a ansiety attack and i know that you dont care. I really feel bad with this. Sorry

It’s honestly disturbing that people’s mental health depends on an album release. They’re either extremely mentally unbalanced or have no idea how it is to actually suffer from mental health issues.

Can you try to make a contemporary joke about mental health? As an example of what is your concept of acceptable and not outdated.
Or the main problem is that the theme is not adapted to a joke?

I really want to understand
