As far as the ones with long lived careers those were the ones that came to my mind. Oh I see. Females definitely have it harder in the music industry, that's for sure. I am sure that´s more than what dresses and make up cost. that's true. But a single designer dress can sometime cost much more than one of those cars and they are supposed to wear a different item everytime. Then there's make up artist teams and lot more expenses. Also they spend a lot on home and decorations as opposed to men who don't care much. Exquisite Interior design can cost someone a fortune. Sadly they do and often times are exploited more than men. I can't think of any male singer who has promoted his album as much as female singers have to in order to achieve significant success. 😩 For example Post Malone, The Weeknd, EMINEM, Bruno Mars, etc. they barely, if not, do any promo on TV shows or radio and yet their music is everywhere! The Weeknd does promote heavily tho, he did especially in this era. But I do agree male artists typically don’t do a lot of promotion.
paurok89 151
I think it could be due to what is expected from each gender. Female artists are usually expected to look beautiful, have a nice body, amazing moves. Let's face it, most people don't just listen to music but see performances as a whole including the artist and their look. Females are the first ones to be body shamed. Female artists are the ones who do sick choreographies on stage. It is definitely a lot harder to perform good as a female artist. Also, ageing is a lot easier to identify on females. Well, maybe not ageing but beauty standards are favouring males a lot more. It is easy to see a 50 year old man more attractive compared to a 20 year old rather than a 50 year old woman more beautiful than a newbie popstar in her mid 20s. This is why it is easier for a young sexy beautiful girls to push out older women. While young boys just become daddies who are even hotter And I know that there are many exceptions when we see older women youthful and full of energy. But exceptions are exceptions and they don't have a huge impact on statistics.

Dua Lipa and Halsey did more promo and even though they are doing fine specially Dua who's doing great, they don't have the numbers of The Weeknd not even the numbers and chart history he had earlier in his career. It seems extremely unfair for all female artists around the globe.

Supporting someone simply because we get horny for "daddies". Yes, definitely! At the end of the day, it is really what the public wants. It's not the labels who buy music and go to concerts. You can invest in someone as much as you want or be as good as you can, if people don't buy the product - it's a waste. So in a big way it is defo us who make certain artists bigger than others. But then people are highly affected by media which forms the beauty standards.
paurok89 151
Also, I thought that creating a family can affect it too. Females give birth, they usually take care of the children and therefore, do not have as much time to invest into their careers anymore. This is just another factor but I think this one works in every form of business not just showbiz.
hELXIG 43,085
Sexism. Women have higher expectations put on them, and an ' expiration date' put on them. If they aren't young and beautiful, then why listen to them or watch them. Same problem we have with how women are treated in most areas. They're something to be looked it, not listened to. Men are regarded as 'sexy' and having 'dad bods' and becoming 'distinguished' as they age. Women are seen as if their 'beauty has faded over time' we say ' what happened to her?' Look at how Madonna was destroyed by the media in the 2000s for trying to maintain her sense of sexuality. 'Mutton dressed as lamb'. And she wasn't even old then. It's getting better... slowly... I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

gagaxsebert 5,804
The GP are so invested in women’s image that it overshadows their careers, unfortunately. Like what Taylor said in Ms. Americana, “"Be new to us, be young to us—but only in a new way and only the way we want. Reinvent yourself but only in a way that we find to be equally comforting and a challenge for you. Live out a narrative that we find interesting enough to entertain us, but not so crazy that it makes us uncomfortable." It’s unfortunate as if women made music as basic as Maroon 5, Ed Sheehan etc. They’re career would literally be 15 minutes long. DiskoBaby 1,929
I mean Adele is the most successful singer this century and she doesn't even sell her look. Taylor Swift has been able to stay relevant all decade without trying to be sexy or reinvent herself just have the same girl next door image. Beyonce continues to be a superstar even after the 90s and she's seen as one of the greatest performers ever without people caring about her aging. Her and Taylor Swift defined the 2010s decades. Look at other new singers today, Billie Eilish didn't have to be like Britney Spears in the 90s to become successful. Lana Del Rey has remained relevant on her music alone. Sia had hits without ever showing her face. Lorde became a respected young artist. The sexy pop star image works for a while, but eventually people get bored of it. You have to make good music and be relatable to people. Gaga's shock factor in the beginning made her the defining artist of her time but by 2013 people got sick of it. So when she took off the costumes and did A Star Is Born she became more relatable and people became interested again.
