Why does it feel like Gaga is just a regular citizen?

Gaga is one of the most famous people in existence, but it feels like she is not for some reason. I think it is because during Born This Way, she was so vulnerable and became an open book with her insecurities. You imagine superstars being standoffish and acting superior, but Gaga doesn't. I forget sometimes that she is a major superstar, known by all. :saladga:

It may feel like that to fans who follow her closely, basically watching her every move, but the woman still has rumors going around that she's a santanist who is kidnapping and sucking the blood out of little children :wtfga:

She isn't seen as just a regular girl to the gp or even the casual Gaga fan.

She’s been a regular girl, just like all of us, since she was 13.

I've always said that one of the biggest missteps in her career was removing the mystery around her and her personal life she had during the first two albums.

I think the novelty about her opening up about that stuff was nice during BTW, but it removed a lot of the intrigue into her personal and ultimately backfired because it gave a rabid fanbase entirely too much insight and impact into her actual life.

I support the work and vulnerability she shows with mental health stuff, but I still think that being a star as big as she is, there's a lot of her personal life such as relationships that she should keep private.

Even though my M&G with her was only like 7 seconds long, I really just felt like I was talking to an ordinary person. She was extremely down-to-earth.

When she opened up more, there was a genuine relatable person. There’s a mutual respect with people she talks to/interviews with. And she’s constantly promoting kindness and the underdog so it feels like she’s right there with us.

Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.

I don’t feel this at all, she’s eons above me as a person, and worth millions of dollars, there’s literally not one single thing she can’t do, her talent and beauty are out of this world, and I’m legit worth less than dirt on her shoes :billie: so no I can’t see her as a regular person

We are all citizens of the world. Then there are people that need to be snooty in order to feel socially valid or keep a high image, and people that do not. Gaga has shocked and overwhelmed the whole world during her 2009/2011 golden era. She reinvented the concept of being a celebrity and permanently changed the way as celebs are perceived and deeply influenced fashion as a mid of expression (remember how afwul was pre-Gaga 2000s fashion? Cuz I don't know her). Then, during ARTPOP, I think everything became too much for her. She felt inconsistent with her true self (and DWUW worsened that). She realized her influence had implications that were clashing somehow with her philosophy of equality among social classes, kindness and liberal democracy. That is why she cleaned up her persona (being aware at that point that would have helped her career too).

In a nutshell, using gimmicks becoming the personification of The Fame itself, in order to develop a platform from which actually helping other people, through music, philantropy and inspirational speeches. Not for vainglory.

The smell of fame is an endless mirage

Using fame to inspire millions of people, though, is what makes one a human ICON.
