I'm cautiously optimistic. The data have not been released yet in full, but in comparison to the other remdesivir trials, at least this one's design is sound.

Don't celebrate too quickly :laughga: it's very good that it's effective, but there's not going to be enough of these drugs tomorrow for everyone everywhere to get them, and it only decreases the strength of the virus, apparently. If it's an enzyme that's being blocked, it probably doesn't just help lower the duration of stay in hospitals but also other symptoms like sneezing that are most likely to spread it, as well as reducing the length that people can infect others, thus bringing down the infection rate. But bringing it down isn't enough, the infection rate needs to stay below 1 per infected to slow it down, while it was nearly 3 in the US before measures were taken. Imagine everyone takes this drug every day, it will slow down the spread enough to get nearly everyone in the US infected in, say, 50 days instead of 70. And then, perhaps, 3 million would die instead of 3.5 million (of course these numbers are wild guesses, but you get the point). So it's going to be a long time before we can go clubbing again.

Bill Gates is probably seething. He wanted lockdowns to last till September.

Exactly. Why should we trust a man who can't even protect his computers against viruses with the responsibility to help us during an actual viral outbreak. I don't trust that man, hes so weird. It's also ironic given that he pushes for vaccines for everyone yet have never vaccinated his own children.
