FATCAT 60,888
Because there were literally thousands of people gathered at a Rabbi's funeral. He's trying to protect them & the city from another spike. This kitten over here (meow)
alecks 751
Controversial opinion but I think we need to move past the idea that speaking to a group or race of people is inherently “racist.” The reason he singled out the Jewish community is because several of the community have been ignoring the social distancing rules and holding large funeral gatherings. Sometimes speaking directly to a community is more effective than a general tweet like “hey, everyone needs to stay home.” It’s basically saying “yes, this includes you too.” He said nothing hateful or anti-Semitic. Babel 41,637
I’m gonna play devil’s advocate and guess that maybe there are more cases of the Jewish community doing large gatherings?

GagARTPOP 260
Im Jewish and I think he’s right. The Hasidic community a lot of time don’t believe in these things or unaware and if they risk other New Yorkers lives he can say this and arrest them. In israel we had this problem where in Hasidic cities they weren’t aware of the situation and there was an outbreak there so they’ve been told to stop and they’ve been put on lockdown
RahrahWitch 6,985
I don't see the mess... It's a response to a situation that happened within the Jewish community.

I think it’s coming from the number of complaints people lodged about them. I will say though I have heard nonstop concerns expressed about how members of the Hasidic Jewish groups were still gathering—and the irony is they’re seeing high spikes internally of the disease spreading. They’re not the only ones though; people all across the country are doing it and I’m sure they’ll be the ones complaining about having listened sooner when they get sick. Like wtf? Stay home already. ShayCristoforo 10,607
If you are gonna say "all communities", there's no need to single them out Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.

Insert any other community in that tweet and there would be an uproar. It’s never a good idea optic-wise to single out groups in a threatening manor. Even if a certain segment of said group is violating orders.
