You are right - seeing the tracklist and theme of Chromatica, a song about wanting stupid love feels more out of place - but then theres a song called sour candy. I think it would've been interesting to see it as lead - I love the song, hence why I have put it in in my signature. but the title free woman and the theme of it is not completely digestible (m*sturbation, the idea off feminism). I think she could've gone for it though, even though the lyrcis and title are riskier - its more ear candy with softer vocals and has a sample of an old song. Its a very branded song. Whereas stupid love is more noisy it is a very easy, relatable theme. It almost verges on being forgettable past radio (which is lowkey what happened) It may have paid of more with free woman vs going with SL and the production and vocals not connecting with GP.
