If things were a bit different, do you think Gypsy would have been a better lead single? It would have been Gypsy vs Roar....

I know it’s a very long time but I just want to know your thoughts, I really love the song so much and deserved better. Please don’t be rude to me, some members here are rude to users with 2-3 digit reputations 😩

I think it would have done better in the eyes of the GP. Applause is a good song, but I think most of the GP didn't like it because it they saw it as a preach about how famous she was. I remember dealing with a lot of people, who were still aware and checking up on Gaga, but didn't follow her, who criticized the song lyrically for being shallow and endorsing celebrity worshipping and things like that.

Applause really needed to grow on me. Also ARTPOP is a fun concept but it's also a bit aloof.

I honestly think Gypsy should have been the lead, with the album titled Gypsy.

Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.

Right! It’s a radio-friendly song and I think it will make the GP digest the whole album a lot easier.

Most people do not think it's a slur.

yes and

It would be much bigger than Applause. It is a perfect song for radio. The song starts with lyrics, "sometimes the story has no end...", which could be a great reference to the end of BTWB tour; the fan base really needed something like that back then.

I really don't get why they chose "Applause" as the 1st single. How can GP relate to lyrics as "I live for the applause-applause-applause"? :selena::emma:

Did you think I'd show up in a limousine? No

Ikr! It’s been labeled as a farewell song or a song to close an album era when in fact I think it could have been more effective as an album starter!!!

Agree, eventho she wanted Aura to be the lead which would be even worse (not because it's a bad song but it's controversial and not radio friendly at all) :selena:

Nah, Applause was the best lead. Not the better song but better lead.

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

What is the fascination this fan base has with this song? I don’t understand the hype over Gypsy. 😕

No, I think Applause was the best choice.
