Dozens of gay men were outed in Morocco

It all started from that transgender influencer from Istanbul who asked her followers to go on dating apps and out gay people. Her account is now suspended, but it's too late for at least 50 gay men from Morocco, where homosexuality is still a crime.

Yeah, I've read about this last week. Our fellow LGBTQs are our best enemy sometimes. It's disturbing what internalized homophobia can do to people. I feel for those gay men in Morocco. I hope they get the justice they deserve. That influencer should be sent to jail not those men.

The fact that it was someone from their own community that caused this to happen is disgusting.

Unfortunately some people are that stupid. Hopefully she regrets her actions.

Was this supposed to be an act of raising awareness about gay right issues from that transgender influencer? Because it's a complete flop and life threatening act. I hope LGBTQ+ people from Morocco are safe :kara:

We love you

I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

Ok, so for those who haven't read the whole article:

A transgender influencer on Instagram is apparently known for being very vulgar, and hates when people are in the closet (they're moroccan and live in Istanbul, so I have no idea how they can't understand that not everyone can be out). They threatened to out a gay fan if he didn't do it himself (apparently they had photos of him), he got in a lot of trouble and had to move away from his family. The influencer received backlash for that, got really angry and told their fans to go on dating apps to see how many gay men actually exist in Morocco (the influencer got insulted for their sexual orientation, too, so they wanted to show how hypocritical it is to pretend that gays don't exist in Morocco). But some of the fans instead downloaded pictures from the apps and uploaded them on Facebook, outing a lot of gay men.

The influencer is now banned from insta, thankfully, and apprently the situation in Morocco isn't as dire as in other countries, gay people can still go to some organisations for help. But still a messy and horrid situation, I hope everyone finds a safe space

It's hard to understand what lead her to do so. Her own history of rejection? Anyhow it shows how much lgbtqia people needs protection.

Other sources have reported various numbers of suicides, it's really heartbreaking. Some lgbtq+ organisations urge the local authorities, despite being very conservative and religious, to finally change the laws. I hope they don't let this happen for longer and start accepting queer Moroccans. Apparently wide societal debates are finally happening there.

Now that the hunting instructions are worldly known, I also worry for our communities from others repressive places.

Mythos

No matter what happened to her, this is just an asshole move, and unforgivable. I hope the outed people are safe.

I watched a youtube video on this and the person who was outing gay men refers to himself as a gay male. He is wildy transphobic too and was on a live stream with a trans male forcing/arguing with them to say they're really a woman. As far as I'm concerned this "outer" ain't no woman, especially if you heard his voice :billie:

it makes me feel physically sick thinking of the position that she's put those men in. it's awful and even after they (hopefully) recover from being outed, that "pit of your stomach" feeling may never go away.

gross. :madge:

I hope this "influencer" loses her platform as soon as possible, and that karma hits her back two-fold. I don't care what the motivation is, that is a wretched thing to do.
