Everyone knows Applause, it was a radio smash. It peaked at #4 and stayed high on the charts for a very long time.

It was a sleeper that slayed the gyms and the straights secretly loved it.

Honestly I think Applause is the perfect lead single. After the BTWB ending the way it did, it was the perfect way of saying “I’m back” with a song all about loving the cheering of her fans.

Although G.U.Y. would be an epic concert opener .

I know that I generally am the only person who thinks this, but I think Britney Spears could have been a great DWUW feature. Britney singing about hate from the media would have brought instant attention to the song. However, maybe as a remix though, with the solo being just Lady Gaga. I am not really sure...

I've always thought Britney could have featured in Sexxx Dreams. Her or Justin Timberlake. For some reason I can't imagine another female featured on DWUW.

I've always pictured a hot and steamy VMA's performance of Gaga and JT with rumors that they were probably dating. Imagine the MV leaking as if it was a sex tape! That would've been legendary and controversial!

applause is personally my favorite from the album. but thinking in terms of the GP, i don't think GUY would have done better than applause. i think manicure would have been the best charting song if it was lead (but since applause is my fav, i'm glad things went down the way it did)

It would've done really well even as a third single, if she had performed it at the Grammys and Brits, and sent it to radios, and promoted it extensively live on TV when TV promotion did a great deal.

Dark Horse was given this treatment and it exploded. Even if G.U.Y. doesn't hit Dark Horse-level status, it would've been a LoveGame-level hit (top 10?) and become the Alejandro of the ARTPOP era.
