Kerry Washington talking about how mentally draining it was doing Django Unchained and how difficult it was for Leo to act out the scenes but they knew it was important for the film and she said it was an unbelievable experience and proud of their work.

Monique said it was therapeutic for her to portray the mean mother in precious because it allowed her to put herself in her mother’s shoes and understand her mother. Meryl Streep didn’t want to be a bitch and it was hard for her to play a bitch to Anne but she did it.

everyone these days are so concerned about how they are viewed in this judgemental society that art gets lost or tarnished

I was merely giving an example. I am aware my hypothetical scenario is on another level.

Okay, hear me out. I'll take the recent drama film Boy Erased as an example because it was the first one that popped up in my head. Joel Edgerton plays the "chief therapist" at a gay conversion therapy center - I'm assuming that goes against what he stands for, but he did it to shed some light on the issue, not because he's a homophobe and agrees with what places like that preach.

Yeah but he is playing the villain in the movie while Shailene Woodley was playing the hero. Imagine if the chief therapist was the guy the audience was rooting for.

I hear what you are saying. But Secret Life of American Teenager wasn't shedding light on anything but bad writing, acting and directing.

Well, can't say anything about that show since this is the first time I'm hearing about it. But the point is, if it's done the right way, actors should be able to portray something they don't agree with, right?

Does that story promote gay conversion therapy or is it simply meant to be educational? There is a difference.

It is meant to be educational. But I, (for the lack of a better expression) took issue with this part of your reply: "Imagine me playing a character in a story that promotes the anti-LGBT while being LGBT in real life. It has nothing to do with skill or honor as an actor." - all I'm saying is - if you couldn't portray someone you don't agree with, you'd be **** at your job. But if you would be able to do it, if it's done the right way, you could've worded it differently.

I'm not really familiar with the show, that's why I wasn't really commenting on it. I tried to explain where I was coming from in the post above.

You literally quoted the part that specifically says that I would not play a character in a story that PROMOTES anti-LGBT and me doing so does not reflect my skills as an actor. That does not mean I would be unable to do the part because I was a bad actor. I worded myself clearly.

Shailene Woodley quarantining alone in an undisclosed location in the middle of the woods complaining about acting is the most Shailene Woodley thing she could be doing right now.

But I don't blame her for the Secret Life comments. She seems to have a pretty strong belief system and didn't believe in the message that show was preaching. Plus it was wholly a mess.

Did she seriously saying that and working as an actor? :bradley:

Oh, just Iooked up. She is that person who eats clay as part of her health regime. No wonder she is kinda messy with this opinion. :billie:

Why would I, a part of the LGBT community, involve myself in work that is anti-LGBT? If that makes no sense to you I don't know what does. The actress in question doesn't complain about acting, but the fact she is required to push a narrative that goes against her beliefs.

Could be a movie that tackles anti-LGBT people and their rage against them, during interviews you could talk about those kinds of people. I mean there are actors who play Hitler

The same goes for my profession. I am a translator. I will never translate an anti-LGBT story for the purpose of promoting ideas that would affect me and my community in a negative way.

Cute, likes Attack on Titan, and woke. Where do I get me one? :vegas:

No but in all seriousness well said.

What I meant is I wouldn't play a part in stories that promote anti-LGBT. I have no problems if it's educational.

Thanks, you're the first person in this thread that hasn't misinterpreted what I said in that comment.

I thought of Zachary Quinto in AHS: Asylum
