The prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, and the cabinet met today to decide that New Zealand will stay in level 4 lockdown until 11:59pm next Monday. NZ has had one of the lowest transmission rates of 0.48% and only 8 cases cannot be traced back to a source. Early childhood centres and schools will partially reopen, for children up to the age of Year 10 only. Attendance will be voluntary, meaning families who want to keep their children at home can. High quality information here (with case numbers and good infographics) and here I personally think this is the right call and will hopefully mean that we can get rid of the virus. I don't think there is any indication of when we will be out of level 2 or level 1 yet but it will be reviewed after two weeks of level 3. There isn't going to be overseas travel for a very long time, and when it does reopen there will be mandatory testing and 2 week quarantines for anyone entering the country, and huge fines for anyone who breaks it.
