Did you miss the part when they said we were watching the economy being destroyed?

People are rightly so worried about 'money' too. Literally everyone relies on money and acting like this crisis wont put so many people into financial hell and that's not necessarily more or less important than human lives but it sure us important.

People in the US will be in financial hell either way. Stay at home, lose money and potentially your job or go to work, catch the virus and accumulate medical debt (because your insurance won't pay or you're not even insured) that will wreck your life forever, potentially kill you and leave your loved ones with your medical debt AND funeral expenses. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sensationalism in the media is a real issue, but for once we are facing a crisis that actually warrants this type of coverage. Now is not the time to say "well the media overhypes everything so it must not be THAT bad, calm down guys." It IS bad. Like, people dying and losing jobs bad.

This. There’s nothing positive to look forward to because we don’t know what is going on. We are running blind into the fire.

and now it seems like the virus can be dormant weeks after having been affected by it.

It doesn’t give people the right to talk about it in this way just to get hits or more views.

I know but ur missing my point. My point isn't that the issue isn't real I never said that

What I'm saying is a real bad issue can still be imbelished. Something being true doesn't mean it can't still be sensationalized

When the news always covers new case numbers but barely mentions recovered numbers at half the rate (and they almost imply that confirmed cases are the current active cases, most networks do not subtract the recovered cases or deaths from the numbers they are showing and makes it seem like that's how many are infected at any present time)

If they talk statistics they will frequently mention stuff like the real number is higher because we do not test everyone

But positive things like real death rate is probably much lower because severe cases are much more likely to be confirmed rarely gets mentioned

The news is thriving right now in ratings let's not act like sensationalism doesn't help their viewership and they know exactly what they are doing

I'm not accusing them of lying. But u can still sensationalize simply by what u decide to focus on and what stats u cherry pick to focus on

The worst is constantly running, notable information that would make ppl calm gets a footnote at best

What’s positive is the improvements that have been made. People just tend to turn a blind eye to that though and continue living in fear. It will get us nowhere. This is a historic time in our lives, but there’s nothing wrong with reporting the positives. The curve is almost flattened in the entire world. We have a long way to go, but the worst is over.

The medical bills will not even be close to this cost.

Especially since many ppl are still expected to get the virus anyway. Flattening the curve is about slowing rate of spread so health system isn't overwhelmed but many will still get it regardless

Ppl will still get their medical bills regardless don't worry

I'd rather want the media being overreactive than under-reactive... Imagine if the news was like "yeah kind of like the flu... don't leave". The masses, ESPECIALLY American masses, would not give a rat's ass even if the government did the same thing it is doing now.

It's easy for him to say "gee calm down guys people die of the flu each year" when he can retreat to his cushy mansion and sit on his pile of money. Put him in an overwhelmed ICU ward without proper PPE and let's see what he does.

His point would remain the same. He’s one of the unfortunate ones who would be severely affected, but he’s in the minority when you look at statistics. People tend to forget that we have billions of people in this world.

Conservative under the guise of having liberal views. The only ‘liberal’ thing about him is his hatred of trump

Whew. I’m reminded why I stick to the gaga threads on this forum when I see the misinformation that’s provided by comments such as those found on this thread. Little monster-wanna be politicians who think they have all the answers and never looked at a bell curve before :ladyhaha:

How about neither and just report unbiased like they are supposed to? Not downplaying it but not exaggerating panic either?

Not being overreactive doesn't mean they have to be under reactive. This doesn't have to be one or the other extreme

They could be more balanced if they tried
