When it comes to the British pop girls it seems they're all struggling right now.

Mabel, the newest big British female star, may have a new top 10 in the UK with Boyfriend but that song struggles literally everywhere else and despite her releasing two weeks prior to Ava, K&Q has already more Spotify streams. Mabel seems to focus on the UK alone which is not a good sign if she still want's a longer career.

Anne-Marie, the biggest and most established British female popstar of the last 4-5 years WW, couldn't even achieve a top 30 hit in the UK with her last release Birthday. The song is already on its way out of the charts and also struggled to make noise outside the UK. K&Q also surpassed this song despite Birthday being released over a month before K&Q. Anne-Marie should still be able to bounce back or she runs the risk of becoming another Zara Larsson with slightly more hits.

Rita Ora, the biggest household name in the UK, has failed to climb higher than #57 with her last single on the UK charts and that song is also the biggest bomb out of all presented ones. How To Be Lonely, released at the same time as K&Q doesn't even have 1/3rd of its streams. Considering that she has struggled since 2019 to maintain her hitmaking career I wouldn't be surprised if she's just on her natural way out.

Even Little Mix (a group, yes), but considering how their latest release only went #9, and stayed in the top 10 for 1 week, I'd say they fit your assessment

I could've easily included them but their struggle is already longer than just this or last year but their new release seems to stay afloat a bit better than their previous droplets so they might've already turned around. Too many Syco Music associated acts have flopped lately so their label has to do everything to let their last acts survive until they find new victims.

If it wasn't clear enough Syco Music is a terrible label and a death sentence for 99% of the artists associated with them :rip:

At least their singles (Bounce Back and Break Up Song) are still scrapping top 10, so I don't think all is lost for them yet

but then again, if they at least returned to making good songs :selena:

IFPI 2019 Regional Highlights:

For the fifth consecutive year, Latin America was the fastest-growing region (+18.9%) with its three largest markets growing strongly: Brazil (+13.1%); Mexico (+17.1%); and Argentina (+40.9%).

Europe, the world’s second-largest region, grew 7.2% – after being almost flat in 2018 – with UK (+7.2%), Germany (+5.1%), Italy (+8.2%) and Spain (+16.3%) reporting strong growth.

Asia saw overall growth of 3.4%, a slower rate of growth than 2018, but this was largely due to Japan (-0.9%), which saw a decline in physical sales (-4.8%), its dominant format. Elsewhere in the region, South Korea, China and India all experienced strong growth, (8.2% 16.0% and 18.7% respectively).

Australasia grew by 7.1% with overall digital revenues rising 11.6% and physical format revenues falling 20.4%. Australia, a top 10 market, recorded growth of 6.0% with neighbouring New Zealand posting an increase of 13.7%.

US & Canada grew by 10.4%, remaining the largest region for recorded music revenues, accounting for 39.1% of the global market. The US grew by 10.5%, its fifth consecutive year of growth. Canada, which was largely flat the prior year, increased by 8.1%.

https://www.ifpi.org/news/IFPI-issues-annual-Global-Music-Report

tldr: Europe and especially Germany is growing again after the EU fell flat the previous year and Germanys music market literally crashed in 2018.

Asia is slower but mostly because their biggest market, Japan, is struggling.

South America has gigantic growth rates.

Australia and Oceania is growing steadily

US & Canada also has huge growth rates.

They have a massive fanbase they can rely on unlike the other three which act as basic radio filler and could never built hype around their personas. Especially for Rita and Anne this is problematic as they aren't newcomers and should have a fanbase this late into their careers.

They turned their back on their own female popstars. That is my literal thesis statement :rip:

I find it pretty annoying that IFPI hasn't released numbers for the individual revenue of the top 20 biggest music markets since 2017.

We only have estimated market value by Statista and these don't seem to match with IFPI.
