However, for me, it is one of my least favourite leads, below SL and BTW. WW I definitely don't think it was a hit in the same way, maybe a reason for that is Europe doesn't have airplay involved in the chart so it couldn't serve the same sort of longevity. It did underperform WW compared to BTW even though it has good peaks. Also, I think compared to Roar, Wrecking Ball, Royals it was lower than them on iTunes so that didn't help. but that's a subjective view of a chartun, to compare it relative to other releases isn't actually true to the strength of a hit. x is smashing so y should - isn't objective. On its first week stupid love was very close to Applause callouts, if only stupid love had got a 2.3% burnout we may have seen the top 20 version of Applause. Supersonic 49,376 Posted April 20, 2020 Share Posted April 20, 2020 Applause is in Gaga's Top 4 best songs of all time (along with Million Reasons, TEOG & Shallow), but ARTPOP as a whole piece of work is definitely one of her more weaker ones. It's not bad by any means, but in hindsight a lot of the tracks are kind of boring and aged somewhat badly (like G.U.Y., Manicure, Jewels n Drugs, MJH), also one of the track titles literally being a racial slur is kinda... a choice, despite the song itself being gorgeous.
