Whitney's honestly isn't my favorite cover of the song either. When they were making the version on the Bodyguard soundtrack, they brought in Linda Ronstadt's cover from the mid 1970s and tried to emulate parts of it. I really enjoy Linda's version:

The woman had an amazing voice and could (and did) sing everything: pop, rock, country, R&B, operetta, mariachi, adult contemporary, jazz, folk... the woman was incredible. She unfortunately got Parkinson's Disease and can no longer sing .
