When you say people? What are you referring to?

GP loved it at the Superbowl and after it, the only ones who hate the song are tasteless LMs :billie:

I don't hate Million Reasons at all, but I do think, when you compare the song to a song like Speechless or Yöu and I (even stripped down Yöu and I) the lyrics aren't as strong. It lacks the poetry and romanticism. Her other balads are so descriptive.

Take Yöu and I for example:

She opens the song singing

"It’s been a long time since I came around
Been a long time, but I’m back in town
This time I’m not leaving without you"

Then spends the rest of the verses telling this romanticised love story and paints this vivid picture of what his love felt like why her and this man are so special. The lyrics don't even need to make sense they just need to invoke this certain imagery and feeling - when she left him it felt like a muscle car drove a truck right through her heart! When it circles around to the outro and she sings the exact lines she opened the song with it feels fulfilling. I believe her at the end, I feel the regret she feels for leaving him, I understand why she is wanting to go back to that special love - I believe her when she says that she is not leaving without Lüc Carl because if that song about me and that was the memories she was stirring about our love I'd be leaving with her.

With Speechless she also paints such a vivid picture that when she at the end she sings "I'll never talk again, I'll never love again, I'll never write a song - won't even sing along - I'll never love again!" and then flips the entire song around asking "Why you so speechless?" I feel it!

Million Reasons is catchy and clearly comes from the heart - but I'm not as invested. There isn't a story. Why is she so in love with this man? He gives her all of these reasons to walk, what's her reason for staying? (That's rhetorical btw - I get the point, she is so in love that although he is treating her awful she will hold onto this one reason to stay with him).

I understand why the public love it, I think Gaga fans just expect more from her lyrics. We love the romanticism of her lyrics. The way she can make you believe in what she is singing about from her descriptions. Million Reasons feels watered down in comparison to what her fans know she can do.

What the hell happened to my jopping thread?

Deleted maybe because "Gaga possibly knows this K-pop song exists because the group is performing at One World"

Wasn't exactly a Gaga Thoughts thread... it's an excuse to post a K-pop song and you know it :smh:

The only people who hate on it are annoying trolls masquerading as stans. The GP and general fans love it. It's a quality song by any standards.

And it's part of the long list of boring "jokes" her stans have RE it being played to death. The reality is it was the song that was most popular therefore the most logical to promote.

These fools also don't like that she kept it simple in her fashion. It was the start of the bitter resentment that she wasn't their ra ra bitch any more. Even though if she has kept up with the elaborate costuming they would have called her boring and predictable. There's endless commentary to be made into how ridiculous little monsters have been and continue to be as Gaga's career evolves. I wish she had a more mature and open minded fanbase but unfortunately some of the loudest voices are very rudimentary aka basic.

The answer always is and always will be lack of taste, especially when it comes to Joanne. It's disgusting.

The Fame

okay, as someone who is not a fan of it, here are my two cents:

Million Reasons, lyrically, is not her strongest, to the point that some of it is actually grammatically incorrect. Example:

"It's like that I've stopped breathing but completely aware" is not grammatically accurate, and is awkward when sung. Adding in the proper contractions would break the melody. It literally pulls me out of the song, but maybe I'm just weird, haha.

Million Reasons is also VERY repetitive. Repeated words/lyrics can sometimes be used in literature to convey a strong meaning, but here it seems...like lazy songwriting? Here is a *literal* set of lyrics from it:

"But you're giving me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Givin' me a million reasons
About a million reasons

^and that set is used multiple times throughout the song. Out of 21 words, 'me a million reasons' accounts for more than 50% of all lyrics (again, this chunk of lyrics is used more than once during this short song).

It is also very simple and does not paint as bold of a picture when compared with Speechless and Dope (as examples). In Dope she even goes so far to change her singing voice to mimic someone basically picking themselves up off the floor after a bender or whatever. In Speechless, she uses such beautiful narrative to paint a picture of a broken, but hopeful, person. Hell, even the unreleased Princess Die has more powerful lyrics and is very distinctive from her other bodies of work.

Million Reasons is also thematically about someone who is clinging onto someone who treats them like garbage, a theme which, although important to discuss and very much valid, might not sit well with people, which may contribute to its hatred.

idk just my two cents. I like her other ballads (Speechless <3 ) but MR does not do it for me.

Edit: just wanted to add: I think it's wonderful if someone loves this song and has it as their favorite! Everyone can be hit by music in different ways. I wish I liked it more!
