Ryan Tedder: It’s “Tone-deaf” to release an album right now

No. I’m for June!! But what you said sounds like you think she can accomplish all of that (live performances etc) in June and it just isn’t possible.

Maybe July then?

You want the album this year right sis? Listen to Ryan tedder :huntyga: (and go with the wishful thinking narritive)

TBH I suppose I should rephrase they're reacting to the climate perhaps.. I mean there is a small part of me thinking it'll get delayed til 2021 if things don't get better

Stare at the Chartster in the mirror they talk to me too. #StreamFunTonight

I fully agree.

Artists will fail commercially if they release right now, no one will pay attention, and they can't provide live performances besides boring livestreams of them sitting in their pajamas in their living room.

I am SO relieved Gaga pushed Chromatica back. I want to see her performing these songs on talk shows and going on a proper promo campaign.

Edit: y'all can criticize me for wanting Gaga to release her project on her own time, but I don't care if we have to wait until 2021 or what. I don't want an album right now that I "might" not be able to see live until 2022.

Why couldnt she release an ep or something now and the whole chromatica later to promote? Why couldnt she release chromatica now and record a new album while stuck inside? She recorded large sections of BTW the album on a bus, she can do it in her HOME STUDIO...hell, she could’ve at least released a new single to tide us over.

Instead ya’ll are acting like this is her last album and last chance to promote anything ever. Nah fam, what is stopping her from releasing this and then making a new album to properly promote next year after this is over? Literally the only reason here is money, pure and simple. But people like Ryan call it “tone-deaf” since they don’t really wanna say “we figured out releasing now means less money”.

Like just look at his other quotes — he explicitly says they didnt release a new OR song bc he thought it was a smash and wouldn't do as well now. Bling not the music lol

The worst is over.

You can't say this, nobody can. The first wave is just now peaking, but some places in other countries that it's already died down in eased social restrictions and are already seeing cases go back up.

Well, Gaga is. She wants to push this album with proper promotion and experience for the fans. She can't even film other music videos right now and it's obvious that there's this whole concept around it that needs visual explanation. For her to release something right now that would make sense she'd need to release a different album.

Lmao. I’ve actually ignored you weeks ago but for some reason made the bad decision to show your post (thinking you would actually contribute something) and totally regret it. The initial thread actually had little to do with Gaga. Almost everyone is over that the album didn’t come in April and the June rumors seem true. I’m excited actually!  So that thesis was IMMENSELY pointless. What’s troublesome is your insistence of commenting even longer than the actual thread on your high-horse and your head up Gaga’s a$$ constantly defending literally NOTHING. We’re having a discussion about music being released in G E N E R A L right now. If this was about Chromatica or Gaga I would’ve posted it in the appropriate thread. Thank god I won’t be able to see your response to this. 😂

easy you guys

The guy is an idiot who obviously takes himself way too seriously.

the world needs music right now, then you have these greedy ass musicians “no we’re gonna wait until it benefits us”.

**** off with that

They shouldn't make money off their jobs? They spend years creating the music. And timing it is essential to it being heard.

I disagree.

I think he's educated in the business and interesting to know people are streaming older or already established records. However, during this time I think the music industry could be less greedy and say hey, this amount of my record sales are going to COVID relief. Are we just not going to have new music until this thing is over? His argument definitely has some flaws ...

EDIT: Also, not to mention the fact that people NEED to feel inspired right now. So this whole argument seems very one sided IMO.

The music industry has had declining revenue for years due to streaming. They aren't gonna sink themselves more by donating to relief.

Because Chromatica counts towards her album count in her contract and the label has invested in it. As much as services like Apple and Spotify love to partner with artists for their releases when it comes to playlist positioning and such, things like ShotOniPhone use a set budget by Apple and the label pushes to earn those spots for artists. They want to see a return on their investment. These companies also do consumer research and plan their earnings around these releases, which they use not to please investors but also reinvest in A&R. Also putting out a Chromatica EP could help with hype, but those songs will be considered old when the LP comes out and affect streams, which influences charts.

The governor of NY LITERALLY said those exact words quote for quote two days ago. I’m from the US so that’s what I was talking about.

I gotta agree with Ryan. If artists release music right now, it implies that they want attention on their work rather than staying focused on the pandemic. Plus, new music wouldn't be delivered as planned (no live concert performances, no award shows, no way of filming music videos, etc.). So I guess from an artist's perspective, releasing new music is more than just making it available on streaming platforms for people to listen to. I think it is best to wait until the severity of this pandemic lessens because times are too sensitive at the moment. We all just have to be more patient with new music from artists.

Seeka

What's with you guys and music? Is music really the only thing you guys can turn to?

That really sorta sucks.

Anyways, it's up to every individual artist to decide whether or not to release, and there are arguments on both sides. And ignoring whatever argument the other side has so you can be happy says more about you than anything else.

Personally? I don't care if anyone releases music. I have a book catalogue larger than the library of Alexandria.

And I still need to catch up on Night Vale.
