Has anyone ever shamed your music taste?

shame

I can remember a recent instance that happened a month or two ago. I work part-time in a classroom and one of the kids found my phone, took it and shuffled the music on there and "Born Naked" by RuPaul started playing :billie: it was pretty low so i didn't notice at first and only when i listened more closely, i realized too late that everyone was already hearing it and so then i immediately snatched my phone back. suddenly, one of the boys was like, "was that your music playing? your music is embarrassing hahahhaha". a few other kids giggled but i shrugged it off and didn't make a big deal of it. however, on the inside i was mortified :billie:

one of my friends, who's really into indie rock, hip hop and EDM, sometimes teases me for enjoying pop music, especially some mainstream artists. :bradley:

so ladies and gays, have you ever been shamed / ridiculed for the music you listen to?

Yeah, one of my old friends told me I was basic and my mom and dad hate my music and always tell me to turn it off 🤡 Dad loves Gaga and Miley Cyrus though. :legend:

Pop Music

yes!

as a unabashed huge pop music person in 2015-2019 in High School it was an every week thing when a teacher ask me what I was listening to and would make unneeded comments and snarky remarks

and I would have people call my music taste outdated and old but I don't really care at this point

This was a thread made for me. I get teased by my friends quite a bit for liking Gaga. Like, on a daily basis. One good thing that's come out of this quarantine is that I don't have to deal with that sh*t for a while. It gets old fast. Shakira too. Also I listen to older music, so that as well. I have annoying friends. Not everyone is born with taste, unfortunately.

I mostly listen to edm and people like to say it’s “just some kid pushing buttons on his computer”. Literally made my mom watch me make a beat once to show that producers aren’t just playing someone else’s stuff

reality’s tight if the music is right

Does anyone feel like almost every person who’s solely a rap/hip hop/rnb fan almost ALWAYS makes it a point to shame other genres?

Whether it’s a straight man who likes his rappers, or a gay man who insists he’s “masculine and not like other gays”, they seemingly always put down others who like different music. It could be playing in a car and a club, and they will act like it’s the end of the world.

I know I’m generalizing, but with many years of experience with such, it almost feels like it.

I often get comments because I’m also into Gary Numan and KANGA who’re more industrial/electronic
