I chose Perfect Illusion but I do still like it. Goes to show just how strong her single game is

Stans forcing themselves to like something by an artist they love isn't exactly uncommon.

If that was the case then everything she released would be praised but there are entire albums and tours which are actively hated on by a lot of people even here, on a forum dedicated to her. But I don't think sweeping statements like that help anyone.

I love all of those songs, but Perfect Illusion was suuuuch an odd choice for a single. I still believe Gaga recorded it just to please Interscope with something more pop/uptempo, compared to the rest of Joanne.

A lot of people in here are answering it based on chart performance, but OP asked for “least favorite.” G.U.Y. is my least favorite song on that list, though The Cure is right behind it.

I love it but come on, who decided that it was the best choice? That song is literally 0% relatable to the public

Omg right... I saw a review of the Gaga vs Katy thing that said like Roar is so relatable and then there’s applause where Gaga is like “arts in pop culture in me”... like who’s gonna relate to that :billie:

Still love applause tho. IMO the worst is The Cure, there is nothing even remotely unique about it, and the entire song is a bop but it’s so boring and she sounds so nasally. Also the chorus isn’t even that catchy like she could’ve at least rewrote some parts of it and got a free hit...

I appreciate it for what it is now but honestly everything about that single is a mess.

☑️ Corny

☑️ 0% relatability to anyone but fans

☑️ That weird accent?

☑️ Underwhelming music video

☑️ That ugly short brown wig

if she wanted to present the album as avant- grade as she attempted to make applause, she should’ve released Venus and shook up mainstream music but here we are!

You should be permabanned honestly :billie: we will NOT tolerate Applause hate in this haus

Out of all those songs, I've never understood the appeal of Perfect Illusion. The vocals are nice (especially when sung live) and so are the verses, but overall it lacks power in my opinion. If she had added a few more lyrics and maybe an electric guitar to the chorus (similar to the intro), it could've packed more of a punch.

Adding an electric guitar? That song is noisy as hell. I love it though.

Perfect Illusion is the objective choice, its not a good song. Its lacking in lyricism arguably moreso than any of her other tracks. Its loud and obnoxious and its a bit abhorrent the way she took such a dope hypnotic track like the demo and absolutely ruined it. Honestly can't help but feel this out of the blue love for PI on here is solely fueled by contrarianism and has nothing to do with it being a good song. Because its not. I think you guys just like feeling like you're in on something that the GP is not lol another reason you all hate on GUY and The Cure. They're too seemingly "basic" for most of you despite the fact that theyre well produced little bangers that excel in what they were made to be.

If you're saying that PI lacks lyricism, I feel like you don't appreciate it for what it is. The lyrics:

That's what it means to crush
Now that I'm wakin' up
I still feel the blow
But at least now I know

are beautiful to me. She's talking about a relationship, but it also references drugs. Crushing pills etc and feeling the "blow", like cocaine. She makes a lot of clever references to amphetamine, coke, and ecstasy and uses these references as double meanings for love.

Smother Em Eh

The Cure! It’s so generic and random. And a total trend hopping sound that Gaga never does so it was weird that she even released it.
